Besides the regular tune ups, I have not done any major mechanical work on the car. Should I think about doing major tune ups on the engine? What engine work do you guys recommend doing on the car?

ALso, I have considered getting the engine steam cleaned. I installed a ram air kit on my car and I worry that pockets of moisture will travel up into my aftermarket air lid. Is it safe to steam clean the engine with cars with an air ram system?
Do you mean you bought it August 2001?? Or August 1st of this year???

Regardless, I see nothing wrong with racking up lots of miles..............cars are meant to be driven right?!

I just bought my car June 26th of this year, and already I've put 14,xxx km (over 8500 miles) on it, which is roughly 3500km/month, or ~2100 miles/month. I know I drive quite a lot, but I love every second of driving this car, and I'm planning on keeping it forever anyway, so I know at some point I'll have to (or want to) get into major driveline work, so I might as well enjoy the car and drive it while it's under warranty, then once that's gone, go all the way with building it up to be a 12, 11 or maybe 10 second N/A car!! I'll determine that by how much I can afford!

The way things are going right now though, I'll probably expire the warranty on mileage twice as soon as the number of years.

I got my SS Convertible in May and now have 9,000 miles. But it's so much fun to drive. And I didn't buy it to park it in the garage and rub it with a diaper. Well I do the diaper thing, but I ............. Heck! I still have the first car I ever bought (in October of 1989). A '67 GTO. That's the garage ornament. One day I'll fix all the rust and electrical problems and drive it again. But I'll never sell it. Same goes for the SS. I'd never be able to get another like it.

My $.02
2002Z28SSConv, just wanted to say I like your choice of a first car, and a current one!! If I ever get a orlando again I want to see them , second I also wipe my car with a diaper.

first car 87 Firebird, bought with 86,000 miles in 94
had 196,000 in 97 when I sold it, and no big problams

second car 94 Camaro, bought in 97 with 31,000 miles
sold in 99 with 168,000 miles, and no big problams

current car 99 Z28, bought in june of 2002 with 24,000 miles
currently has 31,000 miles.

I buy to drive

Bought Mine in Feb 02. Currently have 20000 miles on it. Best 20,000 I've had the pleasure of driving. Being able to punch it when necessary. look up at the sky at the end of a stressful day has helped me let off steam before getting home. Bought it to drive it. Have to drive 500+ miles per week, wanted something to enjoy. However, I understand those who use it for pleasure and let the anticipated experience of the [B]next[\B] time grow. Parceling out the excitement and making it last and last.

Maintenance has been done according to the book. All going well so far. - ssvegas - coolant should be changed every year no more than 2 even with the new and improved coolant.

All I can say is: Keep on driving!
