throwing around true duals ideas...

here is my current setup:

LTs, 3" orp, into an 18" bullet muffler on the ypipe collector, then 3" pipe back over the axle, into another bullet (cut down rasp) and a hidden turndown.

i'm planning to run true duals soon. probably going with either lanes or the TSP rumbler true dual system.

however
i've thrown around turning my Ypipe into a true duals setup. cutting the merge part of the collector and welding on 2 elbows and running the pipes back side by side. i think there is room to put a bullet on each pipe and dump it before the axle.
OR...pick up 2 used stock I-pipes and run them side by side back over the axle and into some kind of mufflers and have rear exit.

NOW..
i'm not sure how i could tie in an X pipe with that setup. this is probably something i would be fabbing up myself and then having a shop do the final welding on.

what i'm thinking about is whether it's worth the hassle (although rear exit would be cool). the TSP system is say $450 shipped. i could sell my ypipe for probably $100 and the current (quasi) dynomouth setup for some cash. so it would cut the price of the TSP system down.

questions...comments?

how much peak hp do youthink i'd gain over my current setup? 10?
i'm thinking i'll be doing heads this winter...so i should be around 420rwhp.

If you don't have room for an X pipe you could easily do an H pipe w/that set up.

X-pipe would be easy to do like that.. if the Ls1 y is the same as the early lt1 anyway.. run a parralell X where the y use to be and run em straight back ive got a pic of my setup on my site in sig. sounds pretty good even with stock manifolds good luck with deciding what you wanna do!

Re: throwing around true duals ideas...

that's kindda the setup i was looking to do.

isn't and X pipe better for hp than an Hpipe?

where can i get a straight in/straight out Xpipe? only ones i've seen come in at angles. and the angle at which the 2 sides of the Ypipe come together are much greater than most Xpipes.

i have no decent shop around me to do mandrel bends..so it's all gonna be cutting and welding of readily available U bends from Jegs or Summit.

is it even possible to run two 3" pipes over the axle?? since i already have one...i'd just have to buy a second. hmmmm

Re: throwing around true duals ideas...

seems like i remember bassani or mac making that chamber type X pipe. tried searching but was only getting full systems and off-road Xpipes for $400+

gonna look in my mac catalog tomorrow at work. seems like they sell JUST the camber, which has inlet and outlets that are straight.

dual 3" pipes have 30% more cross-sectional area than dual 2.5"...

since i'll be pushing nearly 500hp at the crank after the heads...i want all the flow i can get.

i checked ebay and they sell magnaflow Xs that are parallel inlet/outlet for a decent price and they are 3"

Re: throwing around true duals ideas...

Magnaflow also sells an X. I think summitracing sells thier own X's also.

The power diff between an X and H isn't that big if any. We're talking a couple HP at most.
