Well I have to agree with most people get an LS1... I have driven both LT1 based F-bodys and LS1 based, my opinion is LS1 since it is all Mid Range and Top End power... One thing to note is the LT1 does produce better lowend and they are cheaper to build up but there is something about 3000 + RPMs where I like the punch of an LS1..

Trust me I have to agree with SFB767 about there is no other V8 that has 300 + HP and still gets 25 mpg... Look at my 350 in my 68 C10, pushing 313 HP @ the Rear Wheels, only get 6 mpg in town and 8 on the freeway, that is with no Overdrive at all... Compared to my 02 Z28 still getting 18 + MPG on the freeway in Drive Alone...

But I will say is just keep looking around for an LS1 and don't jump on the first one that you see, try to find one in great shape and you will be happy...

Hmm I guess my point was that you could get an LT1 there and still have money left over. Not debating the virtues of the LS1 it IS A BAD *** Motor, plus there are alot of other upgrades the newer cars have. In fact an LS1 reacts to boltons is amazing. I mean a lid and exaust are like a cam on an LT1 car. At the same time once you start modding its on I mean a fast car is a fast car.

Again my vote would be for an LS1 just starting out, although if I had the choice of prestine LT1 car and a normal driven LS1 car I'd probably take the LT1. Kinda like the old big block small block vette arguement. Sure you want the big block but if you found a perfect small block you take it over a OK big block.

Again Just my opinion

the ONLY reson i would ever buy a LS1 is b/c of the lack of the optispark system. i have seen many LT1 cars out-run LS1's with similar mods. IMO, the LS1 just looks ugly with the coil packs on the valve covers. but i guess that is nothing a nice set of fuel rail covers wont fix!!!!

Maybe I'll post the same question in the LT1 section and see what kind of answer I'll get. Or I'll just buy the cute little Focus that i'm driving, it's starting to grow on me a bit. 2.0 litres of fury!

Ya, that was a joke. I'm scared to cross a two lane intersection because it's so slow I'm afraid that I'm going to get hit. I might bring it to the track Friday for the heck of it. This should be funny! I guess I won't have to worry about traction problems with this bad mother. Hoping for 16's!

LS1 is a better motor hands down...I will say they don't seem as willing to take abuse as the LT1 though.

I freakin' love my LS-1. As mentioned, it hauls ***, looks good, and gets good mpg. It continues to impress... and suprise me with its power.
