These never work on LT1s...LS1s??

OK there's some parts that people get for LT1s that don't work and there's always long threads about them. So I'll ask you guys what they do on LS1s...

Bigger TB: do they work on LS1s? What size is a stock TB for an 01 Formula?

MAF: Once again, they don't work on the LT1s, but I see people getting them for LS1s. Why do they work, and do they actually work?

HPP: I know people with LT1s say they can't give theirs away and they were a waste of money. Is it a good investment for an LS1? Is there any mail order tuning out there for these cars, or just a dyno tune?

There's more, I just can't think now....anyone else know of any mods that don't do squat for an LT1 that works on these?

Lightbulb There is a good thread about "Bad Mods" that should help you out.

RE the HPP3 -

I am happy w/ mine.

IMHO, there is a SOTP difference, and the ability to adjust A4 shift points & shift firmness is a plus.

Most M6 guys think it is a waste, however - to each their own.

I'll take these one at a time and in order I guess.

Bigger throttle body. It is a good mod. I have heard good things about the baur throttle body. I'm not sure of the size because they sell them for year and make. It should show you a gain of 5-7 RWHP and that number may grow when higher HP mods are done. For example a stock 01 TA might only gain 4hp from a TB but the same TA might gain 10HP if it was at 400HP with some other boltons and cam/head work. All in all a good mod but generally not one done untill all the bigger stuff is done (headers, exhaust, shifter, lid, 10 bolt rearend, ect.)

MAF is a bad idea. Lemme repeat, MAF is a bad idea. The stock maf flows just fine and is good up to 450HP. The problem with the 85mm aftermarket maf's is they are very hit or miss on stock or bolton cars. A lot of people who got them actually lost HP, threw a code or both. Some however had no codes and gained a few horses. It is not worth the $150.00 when the results could be negative. If I ever get heads/cam (which I don't plan on as of now) I might consider one but as long as I'm under 400RWHP I won't waste my money on it.

HPP3 is ok but for a M6 it is a waste of $$. That is not to say a tuning device is a bad idea, I'd just reccomend a better one. A predator diablo is like HPP3 in the respect that it's hand held and plugs right into your cars computer but it does a lot more for an extra hundred bucks or so. With Diablo you can adjust shiftpoints, up rev limiter, remove factory top speed gov, recalabrate speedo for gear swap and the biggest bonus... you can also use it to check ses codes and delete the codes when done. Even better is LS1-edit. I'm not sure of all the features but it is the best tuning money can buy. LS1-edit is a program that you have to load on a laptop and then plug your computer into the car. I know it does more then predator and is very nice to have after a cam/head swap from what I understand. So you have Hpp3 at $300 (waste of $$ IMHO), Predator at $400 (best bang for the buck if you are not gonna get beyond boltons) and ls1-edit at $500 (better bang for the buck IMO if you have a laptop and are gonna get real serious with mods).

You can get mail order tuning but most people I talked to discourage it. The predator advertises the ability to send it to a facility and have it programmed for your car and shipped back. So it can be done but if you play with the programs and ask a few questions here you probably won't need to do that.

Hope this helps,
