I've heard there was a recall on the 98 egr valves. Can someone tell me who I need to call.

Yes, there was a recall on the EGR on some 98 LS1s. Mine had it.

Call your local dealership service department and give them the VIN. They can tell you if it was done, and if not, they can make an appointment to have it done free of charge.

Also, look for a campaign sticker in your engine bay too...

They made the moving part out of cheap metal that corrodes and freezes up. Throws a SES light and bad emissions.

Mine had it. Morons. I called them, told them the car and VIN and blah blah. They had it in the shop for 30 minutes before they pulled it out and said they would have to order it. I asked why did I bother to make an appointment 2 weeks in advance so I wouldn't have to go to work at the garage I worked at late 2 days. They yapped something about making sure my car needed it. Uh, they get paid to do it whether it really needed it, so they would no matter what, and I had a letter from GM that said my car needed it. The first and last time I ever took my car to Chevy for service. I will just pay for the part on my own next time. Morons.

The job pays like .4 hours (24 minutes), so they had your car for 3 and one half hours longer then necessary. Did you check how many miles they "test drove" it?
