Question Tempramental LS1s

I have a questions about two LS1s: Mine and a guy's at the track Thrusday night.

The best time ever with my car is in my sig. Why do I keep hearing that bolt-on LS1s will easily go into the 12s? I'm cutting 2.1 and 2.0 60' times. Could my transmission be holding me back? I have a cooler on it too. I thought I'd at least run around a 13.1@107 with my mods.

There was a guy with a 30th Ann. T/A convertible behind me with a Hooker catback, lid, tuning, 3.73s, and a 2800 converter on BFG DRs and was running high 13s at just a hair over 100 MPH. Were his gears not matched to his converter? I kind of felt sorry for him after dropping all that cash into his car and running like a stock LS1. He was cutting 1.9-2.0 60' times too. What was wrong with this guy's car?

Re: Tempramental LS1s

what were the track conditions??

heat, humidity, head wind...will all affect how it runs.

i had my 96 at the orlando track 4 yrs ago, bolt ons (no headers) and the best i could get was a 14.3 with a 2.2 short time.

those KDWS probaby aren't helping...get some stickier tires.

i've always heard that .1sec in the short time is nearly .2sec in the 1/4mi

as for the other guy... isn't a 30th aniv TA an LT1??

Re: Tempramental LS1s

Firebirds came out in 68 where as Camaros were in 67. So 98 would have been the 30th anv. for Firebirds/

Verts are heavy. Thats probably some of his slowness, but I agree, that trap and ET is still slow.
Are your dyno #'s in the sig stock or with the mods listed? Those look like stock numbers to me. Still every dyno is different and every car is different. Some LS1's are amazingly fast, its logical that some will be amazingly slow. Before you give up though, start with the basics (filter, plugs, get scanned for codes, etc.). Then look at the fuel and ignition system and go from there.

The dyno number was when my car had a Magnaflow muffler, I haven't had it dynoed since then. I would estimate, as it sits right now, it's making about 330RWHP/350RWTQ.

The car is very well-maintained. I change all fluids and filters on time, always. I did the spark plugs and boots last year. My mech. suggested a mail-order tune and claims it'll really wake the car up.

Firebirds came out in 67. Trans Am's in 69. They had a 94 anniversary Trans Am, LT1, and the 30th Anniversary 99.

Re: Tempramental LS1s

No idea man.. my 01 M6 just went 13.5 @ 104mph with a 2.2 60ft and hitting the limiter multiple times in 3rd (first time down the track and only been driving a manual for about 3 weeks now... for some reason I thought I was going to finish in 3rd gear..DOH)...

I also know a few guys here locally that have run there auto cars anywhere from 13.0 to 13.5 bone stock with 103+ mph traps.

Some LS1s are just stronger than others I guess...

Re: Tempramental LS1s

Yup I was wrong, they did come out in 67. I was thinking they came out a year after the Camaro.
