Fans come on at about 220ish.

You won't see a decrease in temp until you get your fans reprogrammed.

I've learned from this board that the temp gauges are not what they seem to be, i.e. a true calibrated gauge. Others will have better info, I hope.

The '99 and up F-body gauges all read that way. I have a 160 and fans set to come on sooner and mine does the same thing.

98 was the last year of that actual functioning temp guage. after that they put in the dummy guage. it reads the same temp over a 50deg range

"You won't see a decrease in temp until you get your fans reprogrammed.
"

i hate this piece of advise...cause for the most part it's wrong.

sitting in traffic or running in the staging lanes are the only time you reprogrammed fans will make any difference. in traffic who cares about that extra 5hp you get from a lower temp. factory settings are sufficient.

any time you are moving there is air going over the radiator, and the fans probably aren't on. i never had a reprogrammed fan and consistently ran 170 in my LT1 and LS1 with lower stats. and that was even in mild traffic, in south florida heat.

So . . . the '99+ temp gauges read 25 degrees +/-?

My gauge read 210 until I got my fans programmed. After the reprogram, my gauge reads 180 all the time. And that's verified both analog and digitally. I have no idea what the rest of you people are talking about. Maybe the Vette temp gauge is superior?

With a scanner at the first mark on my gauge the ECT is 141, once it settles just below 210 it reads 185 - at idle with the AC off. It'll go above 210 if you start overheating, not sure at what temp it starts moving again is though.
