Thats an MTI clear lid.. problem with them is that people have had theirs get little cracks in them (harder plastic) but they do look kewl. I just prefer function.

im gonna order the lid from ls1motorsports.com......
but it asks if you want the IAT(intake air temp) sensor installed.
it reads "order your air lid with a new GM intake air temp sensor and grommet installed. Makes swapping between the factory and direct flo air lid easier"
what does this mean and more importantly should i do this for the extra $20?
by the way my car is a 98.
thanks again everyone !!!!
Yes, get the grommet and IAT installed. I just got and installed the Direct-flo and I love it. You can really feel the throttle response much better, and by removing the air-silencers with the stock lid it growls a lot deeper too. Have fun, I am!!!

I just got my SLP lid and did the IAT swap. It was a sinch for me for some reason. It just popped right out. The trick is to seperate the grommet and sensor for re-instalation. The whole proccess from stock lid to new lid took about 2 minutes.

If you want to possibly save yourself a big headache, then pay the $20 and have it done. I know not everybody's experiance was like mine. I got it to just pop right out, and took no time to swap at all. BUT I am the minority here, lots of people have trouble with it, so if you feel you dont even to be bothered by it, pay the extra $20 and have it preinstalled.

I have a whisper lid. Took me about 5 minutes to get the rubber gromet out and into the new lid. I would rather do anything myself then pay an extra $20. Is 10 minutes of your time really worth that? Hey, it's your choice though.

Yes, the filter in your car will work with the new lid. For your cars sake, I pray that its not the stock filter.

I will only use the AC Delco filter.. I have a K&N and an AMSOIL air filter that I wont use. Lost 3 hp from both.. Stock one out flows (hence more power) but wont filter as much.. I feel their (GM)engineering has shown that its sufficient for me.

I have an SLP lid. The IAT grommet was not that difficult to 'pop'. I like the SLP lid. On my car, it fits very well. I think it looks good too. I put a Whisper lid on my wife's 3800. The quality is not as good as the SLP lid (and the cheesy red 3800 decal started peeling off almost immediately)- but I guess it works.
I have no idea how well the SLP flows (I kick myself for not having done a baseline dyno) but I suspect it flows as well as any other. Just my experience.
