I don't have a lid yet, but I've heard lots of people say that Texas Speed has a really good lid (it just came out), aslo I've heard good things abou the Whisper Lid . In previous posts, they've said that pretty much all lids produce the same numbers. Some fit better than others (for example SLP was named as one that doesn't ALWAYS fit). Hope this helps

i bought the lid from ls-1 motorsports and if i were you i'd go with that one too. i haven't payed to much attention to the prices on lids lately but when i bought mine it was about as inexpensive as i could find. plus i got 18rwhp, not bad if you ask me.

How can you figure you get 18rwhp from just a lid?!?!?
If so you have "Super lid!" I dont think you got a proper before and after dyno. Did you do the lid install at the dyno shop the same day? Did you do several passes, change the lid then do a couple more passes? If not, then you have to account for break in, temp, humidity and many other variables that may of caused the difference in RWHP..

most lids will net you about 8-10 rwhp. Dont get a filter.. Just use the stock paper A/C Delco (not fram) filter. Its out flows the aftermarket ones. (see sig for tests)

As for lid. I had been on the SLP forums when I read of a person that lived near their head quarters. He bought the lid went home and installed.. Couldnt get it to fit right. He went back to the HQ for SLP and told them about it. They looked at it with him, and told him that some are just made better than others. He had to keep the one they sold him even though it wasnt fitting properly. (it had a gap on it that I think anyone would of found unaccpetable)
He offered pictures and as much detail as anyone would of requested. After that, I was sure I would never get the SLP lid. I do think that a lid is a lid is a lid. So find the cheapest one and be done with it.

It will make your car a little louder to you inside. I find I didnt like to hear my engine. I would rather be smooth and quiet.
Good Luck! My lid install on my 2002 *so I have to deal with an AIR hose to my AIR pump* took me all of 2 min.

thanks for the help guys!

im gonna order the lid from ls1motorsports.com......
but it asks if you want the IAT(intake air temp) sensor installed.
it reads "order your air lid with a new GM intake air temp sensor and grommet installed. Makes swapping between the factory and direct flo air lid easier"
what does this mean and more importantly should i do this for the extra $20?
by the way my car is a 98.
thanks again everyone !!!!

well if you give me your email address i would be more than happy to email you the dyno sheet and also, it seems as though i'm the only person on this forum that has done testing on filters and actually got more hp with a k&n than with paper filters although paper filters filter out dirt better.

my IAT sensor was very easy to get out for some reason. everyone i've talked to with the direct-flo had a helluva time getting theirs out, though. it went in even easier with some wd-40. =).

psychocabbage@raceher.com

and I have done tests on them. 2 times. Consistant results.

By the way.. Paper does not filter better. The aftermarket filters will perform better filtration wise, but paper will outflow them.

If you want looks to go with the performance of your lid I suggest the clear lid from FTForce. I love mine, I get lots of compliments on it at car shows. The best part is you can see the throttle body open up when you rev the engine. It's really neat to see.

Pics are in the sig

I heard that the TSP lid offers the most HP with their lid. But that's what people say. Probably has the same gains as lets say a Whipser lid. IMO, the TSP lid looks by far the best. It has nice contours. The Direct-Flo and Whisper are also nice, but I think the SLP lid looks like crap. It's took "boxy" like the stock lid.
