I could be wrong but I think the aluminum ones are stronger than the steel.
I saw where the 1LE driveshaft got around 5 hp and 7 lbs tq at the rear wheels on a LT1 Firebird.
....if you can get one cheap, why not?
When I had my 95Z I picked one up for $50 off a buddy of mine with a 3rd Gen who was putting a Turbo 350 in to replace his 700R4
