Stock GM y-pipe vs SLP- y?

"There is a difference between your stock y-pipe and the SLP y-pipe. One of the SLP sales reps told me to do this. Go under the driver side door and look under your car and you'll see the stock y-pipe. You can easily see that the pipe gets flat at one point. This sucks when you're looking for more power. The SLP y-pipe is a bigger pipe than the stock and isn't flat anywhere. It doesn't restrict like the stock one".
Would like some more opinions from the above.
I'm thinking about an aftermarket exhaust and wondered if switching out the Y-pipe would give me a deeper tone and more HP?

I was looking into the same thong, and from what I've heard, it seems like the Y pipe is not such a huge difference. Yes, you can see where the stock one is flattened though. I still haven't done my exhaust, but I think I am going to put that $200 towards something else. If you have the cash though, and are not really looking into other mods, maybe the Y is a good choice.
Gents, what your'e looking at is called the "Nascar squeeze". GM did flatten the driver's side Y, but they also widened it too. What was lost in vertical diameter was given back in horizontal width. If you rounded out the pipe, you will find the diameter would be the same as that on the other side. Nascar builders started this trend for bumpy tracks, to stop their exhaust pipes from grinding away on the track over time (remember the sparks coming out from under their cars on tracks like Darlington?) Of course a sales rep is going to tell you "our pipes will increase your HP!!", they're in the business of selling parts!!
Save your money for a catback system, or headers, or cam, or blower.. you get the idea.

Nice to get a no-non-sense answer! I heard your same answer before about the flattening out of the stock GM Y-pipe. Seems kind of silly to spend $200.00 on another Y-pipe. I guess a lot of these hardcore guys buy the SLP pipe thinking it really does help.

The real differance is the stock pipe is 2.25 inches and the SLP is 2.5 inches. My guess is that you will only see about 5 hp. I think it depends on if you ever plan on going to headers or not. If not, the Y-pipe is a cheap alternative. It does give you a little deaper tone. As far as the HP, the results are minimal.
