Starting problem with 99 T/A
Starting problem with 99 T/A
Hi all, I have a 99 t/a. When I got the car there was a problem with it starting, when you would push the clutch in to the floor, and turn the key, it wouldn't start. It would act like the clutch wasn't pushed in. If you backed the clutch pedal out a few inches, it would start fine... A few days ago, the car almost left me stranded so I can't really trust it anymore to drive untill its fixed... I was thinking there might be some sort of a solenoid inside the bay that would tell the car when the clutch was pressed down, and maybe its going bad. Or in the worst case, there is an actual linkage IN the tranny thats telling it... I hope someone can shed some light on this.. Thanks in advance, I appreciate it. 'Carl
Re: Starting problem with 99 T/A
From Haynes:
The clutch start switch, which is mounted on a bracket at the top of the clutch peda, below and to the left of the clutch anticipate switch, prevents the engine from being started unless the clutch pedal is depressed.
To test the operation of the switch, verify that the engine iwll not start unless the clutch pedal is depressed, and that it does start when the pedal is depressed.
If the engine starts without depressing the clutch pedal, the swithch is probably bad, but check the switch circuit first. make sure there's voltage to the switch.
If there is voltage to the switch, verify that there's no voltage on the other side of the switch unless the clutch pedal is depressed.
If there's a short or open in the circuit on either side of the switch, repair it and re-test.
If the circuit is okay, replace the switch.
