SS vs. Vette

SS vs. Vette. Beside the vette having the trans in the rear, are the SS and vette (03-04) really that much different mecanically?

What is better, my SS (mods below) or a stock C5?

i have my own ideas and opinions, but could i please have all opinions please.

Re: SS vs. Vette

My buddy has a 99 C5 and his best is 13.8 ET. I obliterated another C5 in all gears in a roll on from about 25 to 80+.

They handle great, look good and have the essentially the same power.

Of course, I invested in a major engine upgrade and a supercharger, but Hey!, I am still $20K less than they are.

I respect vettes, I do think they are overpriced when new. I wish I had one, but I'm not going to be investing in one soon.

Re: SS vs. Vette

Non Z06 C5 = LS1
An LS1 is an LS1 no matter what the factory ratings may say. Even the LS1 in the GTO was rated a 350 hp but only made 290 rwhp just like many f-bods rated much lower. The C5 will have no advantage in a drag race. Where the C5 shines over an f-body is in handling.

IDK what all this talk about rattling f-bodies is. I was smart and slapped SFC's on the thing ASAP and don't have that issue.

Hmm...I was going to argue about curb weights but check THIS out:

Curb weight of a C5 is about 3250lbs
Curb weight of an SS is an astounding 3310lbs!

60 pounds more? Wow! Was expecting ALOT more than that

Re: SS vs. Vette

I was at the track last week and saw 2 brand new vettes out there. The drivers were young (I think this has a lot to do with their times) and they were running like mid 13s. I was laughing seeing as to how I'm running low 12s.

Re: SS vs. Vette

A stock Fbody will dyno higher than a stock C-5. Mostly due to the IRS on the C-5. C-5's have a tough time getting the power to the ground and are much more difficult to launch until the driver has significant seat time. In a race between a Stock C-5 and an LS1 Fbody the outcome is a tossup (evenly matched) and the result will come down to driver every time.

Re: SS vs. Vette

02 Camaro owner = Mullett

02 Corvette owner = $$$$

Short version... You get laid more with a Vette.

*Edit* Before I get flamed to death, this is only a joke.

A joke, yet, its the truth when it comes to pulling tail. There are plenty of guys on CorvetteForum with very close to stock C5's (minimal bolt ons) running mid 12's and trapping 114-116. I've never seen an f-body do that with a lid and a catback. My C5 has put a bad hurting on many of my f-body friends, and other than a few free mods, an LS6 intake and exhaust, its stock. I'm willing to bet alot of you who beat these C5's were racing cars that weren't trying as hard back. C5's have a HUGE weight advantage, and a far superior suspension setup. CryptKeepers car on LS1tech (99 FRC) has gone 11.71@119mph with a CAI, longtubes, and decent tires. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Oh, and before I get flamed to death, I'm not biased, I own both. And I've had 4 V8 4th gen f-bodies before this, so I'd say I'm qualified.
