Spun bearings...

can you tell a difference in engine sound between a spun ROD bearing and a main bearing?

Pretty sure I spun something but would like to know if its the RODs or the mains...being that the mains being spun would mean MUCH more damage.

this is probably going to be expensive isnt it?

What is your oil pressure at?

What kind of noise do you hear, give me a call if you would like. Its kind of hard to describe noises over the computer and get an accurate idea of whats going on.

Re: Spun bearings...

A few cars back, I had a 1993 Oldsmobile Achieva with the 3.3L V6. It spun a main bearing, and the sound was a loud metallic clattering noise at idle. LS1's being significantly bigger per cylinder than my V6 was, yours would probably sound a lot heavier, and possibly a higher pitch (LS1 being aluminum; the V6 was iron).

No idea whether a spun rod bearing would sound differently.
