Spinning at the gear change

i have 3 friends that both have LS1 powered cars
1 is a 1999 SS M6... he claims to be able to spin the tires and get the car sideways into 3rd gear w/o dumping the clutch and just driving normal he says... i say BS but just wondering

another friend of mine has a 2000 Z28 A4... he also claims to just get a chirp out of the tires when he hits 3rd gear but that seems unbelievable... 3rd gear starts at around what.... 85? seems kinda hard to break the wheels loose if you are all stock

somebody else at my school... well his dad has a 2001 trans am Ws6 M6 convertible... he says his dad can spin the wheels going into 4th... probably like 100 mph i would think but i dunno...

just wondering if any of these claims are legit and all 3 cars are stock.... nothing done to them at all.... seems unreal to me but i am no pro at all to what these LS1's are capable of... just wanting some input please

I have never gotten sideways in third but they do chirp form time to time.

I don't know how hard the A4s shift so I dunno if it would chirp 3rd or not.

Chirping 3rd in an M6 shouldn't be much of a problem (I can do it about 99% of the time) but spinning 3rd: ...maybe if it's raining.

Chirping 4th can be done too, I've done it a few times.

But I can't really say I'm stock.

Chirping the tires between shifts is really no indication of speed though, a lot depends on the tires and the road surface.

It was just this morning I was getting on the Interstate and the onramp is a opened up 90 degree turn then straight onto the freeway.
I was wide going into turn winding 2nd gear light traction close to breaking...let off a bit at the apex. Just after apex nailed it,just as I did,the tires broke loose burning rubber and was sidways. I went with it and rode it out it til I got it staight took 3rd and was gonzo was quite a jolt of adreniline. It was perfect the way I pulled it off fluid and smooth,I love this car.Coarse it is better to stay hooked but not as fun Since I'm a adreniline junkie,I got my fix early today I'd say that this same thing could happen on a TURN going to 3rd also.

As far as straight line acceleration.I have not spun 3rd,I dont think it would..and 4th definatly not. But have got about a revolution or so of the tires w/ a slight wiggle of chassis going to 2nd.But mostly a good chirp is the 2nd gear average reaction in hard acceleration.

Cool

Well, I can believe that an M6 would chirp 3rd gear.........should be no problem...............hell, my old Sunfire could easily spin through 2nd and almost chirp 3rd!!

I don't believe an A4 chirping 3rd though.............even with my 3.73's and Hypertech with firmess set to 100%, 2nd gear will chirp pretty good, but not 3rd gear, and I don't think there's any way a stock car would do it into 3rd?!

And spinning an M6 into 4th?! Yeah, on wet roads no prob!! With both my '81 Z, and my current '02 Z, I can break the back end loose while driving in the rain doing anywhere from 60 - 80 mph!!! That doesn't mean much toward power though, except the roads are slick and I'm an idiot!

Sure LS1's are powerful, but they're not "Super-cars"!? And in stock form, they don't just "chirp" into every gear unless the tires are really shot or something?

yea a stock m6 cannot spin 4th, but it sure can chirp them. i would say 3rd would be really hard to get sideways stock. i can spin them nicely but i stay straight, however if i was turning then yea i could get sideways
#7 i am suprised you cannot spin 3rd, you got drag radials on there or something :0
but yea it all does matter on the road and the weather. if it is a cold/dry (ie: not very humid) night all cars will make more power and will be easier to sping tires. that and the tires will be cold too which would help spin/chirp them.
i can only chirp 4th on cold dry nights, i have never done it in the day or at night if it isn't cold and dry.

Well I do beleive that in an M6 chirping 3rd should not be a problem. With an A4, especially my car, If I take off normal and then Floor it, when my car gets into passing Gear, it will break loose and fishtail a little but not much and continue like this untill it shifts into O/D (my car did this on an Straight On Ramp when it was dry out)... To keep from spinning though, I just ease on the throttle and after I hit D (3rd) will floor it, and it will break loose again, but then you have to consider this is pretty odd since my car has 2.73 gear....
