Sounds like a good deal to me...

I'm looking into buying a 00 red z28 m6. It's got 82,000 miles, a lid, JBA shorties, hooker catback, CheaTR cam, spec3 clutch, ls6 intake manifold, 30# SVO's, tuned by Synnergy Motorsports, t-tops, and looks to be in great condition. BUT theres one problem. The guy says the 5th gear synchros are going out. So does that mean I'll have to replace the entire transmission if I buy this car? Or would it only be a few hundred dollar fix...
He wants $8,500 for the car...
it made 327/335 with only lid and catback also...

5th gear synchros?

Synchros are a couple hundred dollars to fix parts-wise and nothing that you would even notice in 5th. You don't use 5th to race anyway. Labor might be a few hundred to pull the tranny, but it'll cost you only $600 in hard parts to rebuild the entire transmission anyway -- steel shift forks, new synchros, carbon-fiber blocker rings, etc.)

$8500 might be a little high for the mileage. If you think it's worth it, then get it. It isn't terrible, but it isn't a steal by any stretch of the imagination.

For the mileage, you could probably find another LS1 car for that price. The fact that it needs a tranny overhaul would personally lead me to look at other options unless he would be willing to knock the price down.

I'll probably try to offer him 8,000 if I think the car feels good when I test drive it soon. We'll see...

I'd offer him 7500, tell him it'll cost a grand to have the tranny overhauled and repaired.

If you take it to a shop I almost gaurentee it will cost twice that. With 85k on it you'd be a fool to go to the trouble off pulling the trans and NOT replace the clutch.
