Setting REV. Limiter higher???
I used hpp3 and adjusted my rev. lim. at 6200.. Will I hurt anything if I move it up to 6400? That should help some performance, right? maybe a bit>
I didnt mess with shift points yet.
thanks

You can raise the rev limiter to 6500rpm with a stick . i wouldn't go too much higher than that, because the valve train was designed to be good to 6600. My neighbor designed part of the ls-1 and ls-6. he now works on the northstars. Itll pull all the way to 6500, i know. i raised mine, but the tach only shows about 6300 when its supposed to be 6500???

i think youll be ok at 6400, but you arent going to be making anymore power than you would be at 6200.

Shift at 6000. any higher with stock ca and springs is a waste of time and a chance to hurt something.
your car makes less and less power after 6000

Thanks guys, I see that there is some difference in opinion.
I will go search for rev limiter in Search now. hopefully i can find something interesting.
So, by raising rev. limiter, it doesnt help anything in automatic????

this my set up..
98TA A4 with 3.73s and Vig 3200
What kind of shift points should i set up..anyone have similar set up..
WOuld like to keep rev.limiter between 6200-6400..
maybe something like this...
1-2 shift, I think it is fine, maybe +1
2-3 shift, i would like to go +4 (when i raced my budy, he gets me in this shift, but then on 3-4 i get him back)
3-4 shift, maybe +1 or +2...
what do you all think about that???
(i will have to give it a try and see)!
thanks

The only way to truly set your shift points is at the track or on a Mustang Dyno.
First, you have to be able to run the same 60' time over and over and over. Once you are sure your launches are all the same, start working on the 1-2 shift. You should see a better result in your #'s. Keep bumping the 1-2 shift up by 1 MPH on each run until you see a DECREASE in numbers, then go back 1 MPH.
Now work on the 2-3 shift ... do the same thing. Increase 1 MPH per run until you see the numbers start to back off.
There ya go ... may be hard to get it all done in one night unless there is light traffic at the track and you can get in several runs.
You might work on the 1-2 shift point one night and then work the 2-3 the next time.
Now, if you can find someone with a Mustang Dyno, then you can do it there. It gives you a decent estimate of your 1/4 mile time and your 60' times should be identical on each run since you won't have to worry about wheelspin off the line. (remember, your chassis is strapped down onto the drums)
You should be able to dial it in within 6 - 8 runs at the most.
Track = cheaper, but harder due to having to run IDENTICAL 60' times. If your 60' times don't match, you have to toss that run.
Mustang Dyno = quicker and easier, but having to spend $$$ for the dyno time. Remember also that you'll have to spend 10 minutes between runs while you reprogram the computer with the new shift points.
Good luck !
