SES Light .. possibly lost an O2 sensor
SES Light .. possibly lost an O2 sensor
The SES came on this afternoon on my way back from a movie. A couple weeks ago I had a 232/232 112 LSA cam installed. I still don't have an LS6 intake manifold, but that is in the works .. and it runs a bit rough due to my somewhat restrictive intake and exhaust (flowmaster which will soon be magnaflow). Recently the exhaust has stunk more than usual. I haven't had cats for quite a while, but the current smell is definitely stronger. That's what makes be believe I lost an oxygen sensor. Would you guys agree? And secondly would the SES light come on if I lost both or just one O2 sensor? How will the computer handle one downed O2 sensor? My car will be going back to the shop that installed my cam sometime later this week for a ported throttle body, ls6 intake, and magnaflow cat-back ... I'm trying to get an idea if it's safe to drive my car there or if I should get a platform tow truck to take it there... It's only about a 20 mile freeway drive.
EDIT: Oh and I should mention I did receive a dyno dune after the cam install and from 2400 rpms and up, my Air/Fuel ratio is right at or just a hair below 12.5 ... or at least it was the night it was on the dyno.

Re: SES Light .. possibly lost an O2 sensor
if it's not misfiring or doing anything out of the ordinary, I'd say it's probably safe to drive. Possible that you lost an o2 sensor, but normally that would set of an SES light, I believe. Losing an o2 sensor might cause the PCM to try to correct the a/f ratio or timing curve. Any smoke coming out? blue or white?
Re: SES Light .. possibly lost an O2 sensor
Why guess what is causing the SES? Could be any one of a hundred things. Never ***-u-me. Get it scanned and find out what the problem is. Then come talk to us.
Re: SES Light .. possibly lost an O2 sensor
lol well, considering he already told us his car is going back to the shop later this week, it's natural to think he'd have it scanned/fixed while he was there.

That it is .. tried to get a freebie scan done as well but apparently either a law or a lobbying group prohbits or has convinced Autozone to not provide free OBDII scans in California.... I tried but I can wait, car should be going back in this week.Since no one has really covered this I'll bring it up again .. I was also interested in finding out the reaction by the PCM for one failed front O2 sensor. Would one failed sensor result in an SES light? In addition, if a front oxygen sensor does fail, how does the PCM respond in adjusting the A/F ratio? .. i.e. go off the other's readings or simply guess as if both had failed.
