SES Code P1416
SES Code P1416
"Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 2" There are tons of posts about this code on the board, and most point to the passenger side AIR check valve. I replaced the passenger side check valve, code still present. I replaced the driver side check valve, code still present.
My AIR pump is functional (fuse is good, and the thing is as loud as a jet engine when it runs.....
). I visually inspected the AIR tubing, and it appears to be in good condition.
Where do I go from here? Any suggestions?
I found out the code when I went through the DEQ for my inspection. I knew I would fail, but wanted to find out what the code was. Is it possible I'm now throwing a different code? I'd rather not go through DEQ every other day just to read codes. Should I buy a code reader?
Thanks for your help.

Go to a chain auto store like Autozone. They will read the codes for free. Did you reset the computer? Just fixing the problem will not make the code clear until the necessary amount of key cycles/test cycles has been completed.
No, I didn't reset the computer. How do I do that? I've driven the car probably 5 times since the check valves were replaced. How many cycles are necessary?
You can't just go by the # of times you've driven the car, certain conditions must be met. I use this procedure to reset after fixing problems that set codes, except I wait 15 minutes:

ya, just disconnect the battery terminals, wait like 15 mins and then reconnect. everything should be cleared. if anything else pops up just get it read for free at the chain stores like AL SS590 M6 said.
What kind of inspection is it? If it's where they hook up and read codes I recommend you don't reset the PCM because it'll also reset all the other readiness tests, and you'll have to do several drive cycles before getting inspected again. For info on P1416 for your year go to gearchatter.com

Thanks everyone for your help. Hopefully the code stays gone.
Depending on the state and year of your car they might let you get away with 1 or 2 not readies? If they turn you away do some drive cycles, according to this link it might take up to 5 tries if the battery was disconnected/PCM reset. www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html

But the good news is that the check valve that failed prior showed up as a "Pass".
Thanks again everyone.
I was afraid that would happen - you'll be fine, just put some miles on it. Don't think you have to follow the drivecycle exactly to the letter. So glad we don't have emissions in Florida.
