I went and looked under my hood, jeez it is tight in there. I couldn't even see the distributer cap.......
Well for one, I was thinking in Old car terms since I just bought an 02 and forgot the fact that it has Coil Packs and no Distributer!! But mainly stating that these camaros and firebirds are a pain in the **** to change spark plugs and wires!! I don't know about the 98 - 02 Firebirds but abot 2 weeks ago I looked under a 97 Trans Am and the Exhaust Manifolds were completely different from the ones on any other camaro/firebird!! I did not own myself DAMN!! the 97 TA that I looked at, the exhaust manifold had looked upside down compared to most other manifolds !! Like the main tube that bolts to exhaust pipe before the cat, was above the spark plugs !! Plus they were not HEADERS, they were stock exhaust manifolds !! Headers might be biotch to work around but not like these manifolds !!

Sorry for making a mistake.... What is next someone is going to tell me that there is no such thing as Spark Plug Wires on These Cars ?? Then someone is going to tell me a Distributer with Points is better then HEI??

Sorry for the Mistake!!

Charlie..

the lack of distributor is their point. as for the oil, synthetic isn't reuqired, but recomended. if i'm correct, the 58 is the 4.2
s filter and the 59 used to be the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 liter filter. i'd recomend mobil 1 10w30 in the hot months and 5w30 in the colder temps with a standard ac delco filter (pf44 i believe it is).

Hey W3dgy,

I noticed you're from Roseville, I'm from Yuba City right up the street. Any Camaro groups in the area?

Be careful if you send someone else to get the oil changed at one of those Quick Lube places. They want around $30 or more for an oil change, but what they really want to do is replace your belt, airfilter, and change oil in your rear end and transmission. You have to say" No Thanks, Just an oil change only"Some people go in for an oil change and spend $200.
Walmart will just change the oil and use Mobil 1 if you want it and not pressure you to buy anything.

Well they looked like they were upside down.. Don't know if these were stock but they kind of reminded me of Ram Horn Manifolds except they were one big arch rather then having a center piece!! They were defintely not headers but an Exhaust Manifold!! You can say what you want but ****, I have 3 witnesses with me when I saw the car over at Hughes Pontiac in Santa Barbara, CA.. You can talk all the **** you want about me man but ****, I know what I am talking about, maybe yours does not have the manifolds I am talking about but **** not to be such a Jackass About it!! You probably never seen anything that is ****ing weird!! I hate when dumb ****s try to act supreme, I just wish you and your Transam was here, so I can prove to you on this POS T/A at this dealer... I try to give out information, and people thinking I am talking out my ***!! Well ya know what, I just say **** it, and realise that people that are jackasses really don't know **** when it comes to knowing engines inside and out w/ out having someone else build the engine for them !!

not sure what the info is you were trying to provide other than none at all. you seem to have no problem being defensive when you can't prove your own knowledge. over the plug manifolds aren't upside down. when you can back up your "information" with something more usefull than some car you saw at a car lot, then you have a reason to defensively fire back...

Well let me rephrase something, I know they are not Upside down, just looked that way because most newer manifolds, were designed under the spark plugs.. I never meant that they were upside down, just looked that way because the last Over the Plugs Manifolds that I have seen on Small Block Chevys made by GM were from 67 - 72 Chevy Truck Ram Horns, and even Corvettes and some Older F-Bodys had Ram Horns!! Just seems that Pontiac over the years has made some really interesting designs same as Buick and Oldsmobile.. I am not trying to start a Flame War here just voicing my opinion on what I saw. It would be nice to have people criticize nicely rather then trying to belittle someone.. Plus with the fact I was posting the fact that it seems eventhough both Camaros/Firebirds are a Pain to change Spark Plugs because of how tight the engine compartment is, seems that because of the Firebird/Trans Am, are even tighter with the Over the Spark Plugs Manifolds!! They just look *** backwards to me! Again this is just my opinion and I know people will flame me here but I guess I will not voice my opinion and knowledge on this board because it seems like opinions and some basic knowledge is not welcomed on this message board.

Seems that I have made a major mistake by trying to voice my opinion, and try to get some positive feed back from people that are actually great people to get to know.. With how great the people are over at 67-72chevytrucks.com are and I tell all my friends to go there if they are wanting to learn more about All Years of Trucks... I would love to be able to tell people to go to this site and have them come out with some knowledge but alas, seems that the people that want to help out newbies when it comes to these cars want to be **** about it and flame all the time.. Sorry for bothering people or offending people but I guess this will be the last time I actually post and view anything here, because of the lack of being able to voice opinions and knowledge...

The 97 you looked at had factory manifolds.

all 93-97 LT1's have this manifolds. Both Camaro and Firebirds were this way on those years with the LT1..

The LS1 like your car is different. thats why it looks different.

The camaro and firebirds have been the same mechanicly per year since 82

K+Ns filters have a 1" "nut" on the bottom. Makes it alot easier to change the filter when the exhaust is hot. They cost the same as the Mobil 1's. The performance is the same from what I have seen. Can't go wrong with the Mobil 1 oil. Wal Mart is usually the cheapest.

not sure if you felt i don't think knowledge is welcome here or not, but describing the manifolds (stock one's at that) on a car you seen on a used car lot isn't much for usefull information or a reason to get pissed when the other guy commented about it. if you'd like to compare your knowledge i'd be happy to anytime.
