RPO code PBT?
RPO code PBT?
Both of my SS cars (00 and 01) show this code on the drivers' side door sticker. The build sheets for both cars show the following:
PBT-ID Temporary Hood, Proc Option.
I've checked the original GM shop manuals (not the reproduction Helms manuals) and this RPO is not listed. A few questions......
1. I'am assuming the Z28 cars don't have this code...True?
2. What did this temporary hood look like?
3. If its' temporary, what is it made of...cardboard?
4. Where did this hood go after the SS hood was bolted on the cars?
Thanks for knowledgable replys

If that RPO code calls for a temporary hood, it probably is the standard Camaro (sheetmetal) hood GM made the car with. Prior to going to SLP, GM makes the SS with the sway bars, 17x9 wheels/tires and slaps on a temporary hood and rear spoiler. GM will not release a car with out the rear spoiler nor hood from the factory. Once the SS cars get to SLP, SLP send back the hoods and rear spoiler for GM to sell them as used parts.
Thanks for your reply George.....
I was thinking the same as you in that this so-called 'temporary' hood is just the stock flat one. Seems that GM and/or SLP are making a lot of money from 'take-off' hoods and spoilers. Same goes for wheels, suspension parts, etc.... Matter of fact, I'd like to have the 'take-off' parts from my 2 SS cars considering that I paid for them!
PS: George, in a earlier post, you corrected some of the myths concerning when and were Z28s' were converted to SS cars. Would you please send me a run down on that again? I need to show some other SS owners that what I'am telling them is just not my 'opinion'.

Many of the Pontiac Trans Am and upgraded WS6 cars received the RPO....PBT temporary hood. The WS6 cars are upgraded by ASC. The SS Camaros' are upgraded by SLP.
Given this, did both Pontiac (thru ASC) and Chevy (thru SLP) recycle the temporary hood and spoiler? If so, there should be a ton of stock F-Body hoods and spoilers to be had from your local GM parts counter.
Can anyone shed more light on this subject?
