Ripped car apart. Giant photos from the garage. Major bandwidth.
OK, got into it today. It's a 2002 Z28 M6 and I'm putting on a complete brake kit with aluminum hat rotors, carbon Kevlar pads from Porterfield, braided steel brake lines and Castrol SRF fluid. Also putting in full length headers. Going to do this in stages, the tear down was today. My parts will be arriving all of next week and I'll put them in as I get them. Here are some photos.
Here is a shot of the LS1 motor. Has 20,000 miles on it. I know it's dirty but I'll make the car spotless again after I do the work. It's dusty around here right now from some nearby construction.

Here are two photos with the exhaust manifolds yanked out. Wasn't too bad. I have good tools, that's very important. I got all the brakes off, all the exhaust and the plugs/wires yanked in 1 hour and 15 minutes. :smash: By the way, my car had Denso spark plugs in it. That's odd.

Here's an underneath shot with the exhaust gone. Pretty freaking exciting wouldn't you say?

This is two photos of the front and rear brakes torn all apart. Will the car ever move again? I think so. Brakes are easy.

Here's all the old parts laying out. Say :seeya , they will be heading to the metal man or ebay.

Good tools are important. They cost a fortune but in the long run they are a great investment. The box may be Mac but every tool in it is from Snap On. I just liked Mac's shade of blue and I got a good price on it. I wouldn't touch any car with any tool besides Snap On if I could help it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This hoist was the best ~$2000 I've ever spent. I don't know what I would do without it now. I've had it for four years and apart from a small leak that we had to fix it's been perfect. I much prefer the kind that let the wheels hang free. I work on brakes more than any other repair so a drive on four post hoist would do me no good. Give me a 2 poster anyday. You can see my air line spool in the upper right, the red thing. I love my hoist.

Another important piece of equipment is the compressor. This is a big one and it maybe turns on twice during a big job. Holds lots of air and not really all that loud either. I would like to build an insulated housing around it though. Not sure what I'd want to give up first though, this or the hoist. They are both pretty important to me.

Here is a shot of a tiny excuse of a machine shop I have. Drill press, band saw, MIG welder, O/A torch and welder. You can't see it but also have a big press, parts washer and a brake lathe. I'll try to get a photo of those later.
http://home.attbi.com/~bartlane/welder.jpg
Hope that wasn't too boring. I earned myself a steak tonight so we're going to the store.

That's a nice lift. I've been looking at them for awhile now. Is your garage ceiling eight feet ?? Is the lift 110v?
