the right cam

I plan on running stock tuning.

List of mods:
Mac headers w/ oryp
stock catback with flowmaster muffler
cutout
lid
ram/cold air intake

I'm looking for a cam that will run on stock tuning but give me a increase in power through out the band, I don't want to loose lowend torque.

I'm also hoping for 380-400 rwhp

I'm looking at the tr224

Another ? for mac header owners, will the ory pipe fit into the stock I pipe?

Re: the right cam

you wont get 380 rwhp with just boltons on and the tr cam.

except 360-370 with tuning. id be shocked if u got 340 without tuning. your car will run like **** if you dont. very possibly youll slam a valve or soemthing. defiantly spend the extra money, get a good program like ls1edit. and head on to a dyno. youll be glad you did. ive done lotsa research on stuff like this

just ordered, lid, filter, headers, cats, loudmouth, crank pulley, maf ends, and ported tb with the .224 ill be happy if im makin 360. im expecting 350 rwhp

I don't think there is one that is worth it. If you are going to go through the process of swapping a cam you might as well get something substantial and get it tuned properly.

Re: the right cam

Nastier idle = less gas milage. Plus if you're really worried about daily drivability and milage why wouldn't you want a tune to get the crap working RIGHT???

Re: the right cam

the hotcam sounds like a decent cam for what it is, I wouldn't throw that out of your mind. Lots of guys have hit decent numbers, plus you'll never have to worry about changing valvesprings like you would with the tr224
Far as power output, I thought I read on here guys hiting 400rwhp with the tr224, if I'm not mistaken I think the TR website has a dyno of that cam hiting 399 rwhp, unless its flywheel. People have had great times with that B1 cam, I think its the 221/221 by lunti and some other company that sells them

Theredone....

i think you need to do a little more research. anyone can say "oh i want a cam", but to have any educated ideas on what one you need to have logical goals and do plenty of research.

you say you want stock tuning...WHY? that's like rebuilding a motor and reusing stock bearings.
you can get a mail order tune that will be pretty close for most cams for about $250 i think, or a dyno tune for probably $300.

you say you want a nasty idle...why? any cam with a small lobe separation should give some lope...ie...nasty idle.

do you want to maintain good gas milage? if so a smaller cam, WITH a tune should reach that goal. i know my cam is pretty big, 233/233 with alot of lift, and i still get 24-25mpg on the highway with stock gears, pushing nearly 400rwhp.

to get the same power as a big cam, you can run a smaller cam with some ported heads. that way you are a bit more "stealthy" but still making good power.

i spent 6 months researching which cam to get. talking to my mechanic and asking here.
