Unhappy Rear Main Seal PROBLEMS!!!

Well, finally took my beast to the dealer for my mysterious oil leak. My problem was engine oil leaking at the engine to tranny connection point. Thought it might be an intake gasket. Negative....Rear Main Seal. Quoted me $600 to fix!! Also found rear pinion seal to be leaking. Said forget it to the rear main, but did the pinion seal. ($90) Anyway found a local trans shop to change seal for $250. Not bad I thought. Anyone had trouble with theirs? My rig only has 45K on it. Need some answers. Wy is it bad at 45K?

seepage vs. leaks

I have a 2002 Z28 with 13,167 miles. I found out yesterday that, in addition to a knocking noise in the rear-end, and a steering wheel that sounds like a creaking ship whenever it is turned, I also have what the service manager called "seepage" from the rear main seal, which he asserted was "normal." After some discussion, he agreed to fix the steering wheel and the rear-end problem, but does not want to fix the "seepage" problem because he thinks that could make matters worse. I am skeptical and think the "seepage" should be fixed as well. Does anyone here believe that rear main seal "seepage" is normal? Please let me know.

Also, I have "seepage" from the top of the differential. I have been told that in from an overflow valve. Has anyone else had that problem? Thanks.
