Race Gas worth it?

hey guys i work at a yamaha dealership and we can get vp race fuel for pretty cheap.. a co-worker of mine said that the unleaded 110octane race gas that we use in our R1/R6 race bikes would give my ls1 some extra power.. now on a basically stock ls1 would it make a difference or would it be a waste unless im FI or n2o assisted?? any input is appreciated

It'd be a waste for any near stock LS1 (even running 100 octane is pointless).

The only reason to run anything more than 93-94 is if you need to (high CR, FI, etc...).

Thats what i argued with him but he insisted that it would "boost" performance.. although with nitrious lets say 150 wet shot how benificial would it be? im guessing it would just allow me to run a bit more timing?

Don't really need high octane gas unless you're running a very high compression ratio.

Re: Race Gas worth it?

it would help prevent detonation and let you run more timing on nitrous but otherwise it might actually hurt power because the burn rate is slowed considerably.

if you can get some cheap, feel free to splash a bit into a tank of premium for a little detonation insurance on track day but there's NO reason to run a full tank of it.
