Question for People with Manual Tran
I have a 2000 Manual Z28 and i was in San Francisco over the weekend and if i got stopped on a hill, I had an extremely hard time getting it to move from a stop. The first time it happend, the car wouldnt move and then made a loud humming noise for a few seconds and slowly moved forward and i barely made it. I made damn sure i didnt get stopped on any more hills that day. Does this mean i need a new clutch? How much money should i be looking to spend to fix the problem.
what were the rpm's doing when the clutch wasn't engaging? if the clutch is going out, you should see the rpm's increasing as you give it gas as it would if you were in neutral. in other words, the rpm's would increase rapidly with no power transmitted to the wheels.

A clutch install in the Bay Area usually runs about $300. I might recommend Syngery Motorsports in San Jose or Stock to Performance in Concord. Both excellent shops with good reputations.
Unless you're pushing more than 400 HP I would recommend a Star Spec Stage 2 clutch. It's smooth like a stock clutch with good gripping power. It retails for about $450.

Try driving rally style. Use your ebrake to prevent you from rolling back. It's much more effective and puts less wear on your clutch.
Pull the ebrake up, release the clutch and accelerate. The ebrake will prevent you from peeling out into traffic. Slowly release the ebrake as you need to move. Practice enough and you could stay on the edge of the steepest hill without any use of the clutch.
