Hooker or SLP Headers?
I have a 00 Z28 and I want to get headers. I see Hookers (or Hooker clones) on ebay for real cheap. But both companies claim they have the most horsepower (naturally). Which one would you all recommend: the SLP Long Tube or the Hooker Long Tube headers? Also does anyone have numbers on the gains from either of these headers? Thanks
I'd say Hooker. I don't have headers myself (yet) but i read a lot on this subject. The SLP look a little shinier, but that will go away with time. With SLP you will probably be looking at shipping delays (had shipping delay problems every time i bought from them!), hanging too low (for some people), and too much $$$.
I say get the Hookers. I haven't heard anything bad about them. Pretty much all long tubes will run ABOUT the same rwhp. 20-28 rwhp.

There was some posts on ls1tech.com about the hookers rusting fairly quickly through the coating. I don't know if this is just a Jet-hot problem or all coatings.
Anyway, if you want to run cats you can get the SLP headers as a complete kit. With the Hookers you will need a custom Y-pipe. SLP's headers do hang kinda low.
As far as power, neither are the best. I think that goes to QTP or any of the old Grot clones.

I went with QTPs but if I had to choose between those two, definitely Hookers. The SLP design just doesn't look like it flows very well (but I'm sure they're still ok), they hang low and they're a b!tch to install (from what I've heard). The Hooker/Jet-Hot headers are pretty popular and I haven't heard too many people complain about them.

2. Hypertech Power Programmer III (see online vendors ads for details)
3. Automatic 4-Speed with 2.73 rear differential gears.
My Hookers have had no early rusting problems, mostly all hearsay. Mine are coated from jet-hot by the way.
I can install Hooker (or Jet-Hot) headers in my garage, by myself in less then 8 hours with simple home tools.
A guy I know had to have a shop install his SLPs, they are not as easy to install.

Some of the HP/TQ expectation #s they give are pretty steep.I saw one of those claiming 41hp 54tq to the rear earlier.I think it was SLP?
I heard of Pacesetter headers for v6s but havnt seen or heard of anyone using them on the LSI.I think they are poor quality like the RK sport headers.
I kinda have my mind set on the FLPs.I have thought of Hookers. But with me I have to smog.So to get the catalyst interchagability that Finish line has with Hookers I'd end up spending about the same as FLPs cost. With the cost of the hooker headers,a off road pipe, another off road pipe with 2 high flow Cats added to it for smoging.
Instead the FLPs got all that in one package.

Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one!
Just about all long tube headers will net you about the same amount of power. You'll find people who love a certain brand, and you'll find people who hate that same brand. Of the two you mentioned, I would get SLP. They are real stainless steel (Hookers/Jet-Hots are mild steel), they net you the same amount of power as Hookers, and the quality is excellent. The SLP's are also Jet-Hot coated like the Hookers. SLP's have gotten an undeserving bad rap.
I've heard people criticize the SLP's because they look like spaghetti or they bend in stupid ways. They do that so they are truly tuned length. It's amazing that someone would consider not getting them because they look stupid.
