Question Question from over the pond about my Z28

I live in the UK and need a bit of help please, I have a 1999 Z28 and the Trip Odometer sometimes resets itself when I start the car, strangely, it usually happens if the weather overnight has been cold but not if it has been warm.
When I turn the key the speedo and rev counters will flick over to maximum then settle down and the trip will be at zero, I guess something is resetting.
Does anyone know what the problem may be and if so do you know of a fix?

I have a '99 and had the same problem. The dealer had to replace the dash cluster to fix it.Luckily mine was still under warranty when it happened but I understand it's not an uncommon problem so maybe you could get the dealer and/or Chevrolet to work out something for you concerning cost.Good luck to you,I hope it works out well.

Question

It's just because it rains so much over there that the moisture penetrates everywhere! J/K!

I've never experienced the problem myself, but I remember seeing a thread not that long ago where somebody was saying the same thing happens with the speedo and rpm needles. Not sure about the trip, though...

Don't quote me on this, but I think it had something to do with just a loose, or dirty battery terminals, or something like that...

If nothing else, at least check the terminals and see if anythig changes.

You might want to try looking a few pages back and see if you find the thread. Or try some searches, too.

Later!

Thanks guys,
I found a post that says it is covered buy TSB# 99-08-49-009 but does anyone have a full description of it or a link to it?
If so I will print it off and stick it under the nose of the garage that charges me a lot to service the car, they charge a lot because they say the car needs a specialist dealer to service it to the high standard required!!!

Heh... Maybe I was a bit off...

Anyway... Here is a copy of the TSB. I'm pretty sure you need to take your car to a GM dealer, though...

Thumbs up

95GRNZ, Many thanks for the link I told the dealer about the problem a year ago but he said that he could not fix it if it did not go wrong at the garage.
Armed with this info I should be able to get him to fix it even though it is not under warranty any more.

Whoa guy, the first Camaro I bought was a V6, I loved it so much that I changed it for a V8 2 years ago. It is a pain to park because of the doors but it is the 2nd fastest car in the car park at work, only beaten by a very expensive BMW, friends just can’t believe how fast it is for the money and it looks so much better that the beemer.
