im considering getting a ta or a z28 or ss
give me some pros and cons of the ls1 with m-6 and ls1 with A4
that and what is the difference between a regular transam and a Ws6 and then a Formula
what makes them all different?

Basically, they are both equally fast, and it's a drivers' race between 2 equally modded cars

A Formula is basically like a base Z28. It is simply a Firebird with the V8 instead of the V6, and they come with the least amount of options, unless you add the options to them (ie: leather, power windows/locks, etc.). Maybe I'm wrong though?
The Trans-Am is the upgraded V8 Firebird. It has a different front end (fog lights in the center) and AFAIK, Trans-Ams usually come fully loaded. The WS6 is a package for Trans-Ams, and is like the Camaro SS of Firebirds. They come with 17" rims, a functioning "Ram-Air" hood, and an upgraded exhaust system.
what makes them all different?
Mostly appearance. They all have the same LS1, just that the SS or WS6 come factory with a slightly better intake & exhaust, but any Formula, Trans-Am or Z28 with an aftermarket lid & exhaust will perform equal or better to the SS / WS6. Don't choose a car based on what the differences are on paper. Pick the car with the appearance and options that you prefer

Appearance is really the only difference. Many people will argue for days that there is such a HUGE difference, it's sad really
I've seen stock Z28s and Formulas that hit 12s stock (mine did)
I've seen stock SS and WS6 cars that can't get any better than 14s with good air, regardless of driver

suspension and option levels available.
The motor is the same in all V8 cars.
The T/A has stiffer (or progressive rate) springs, larger
sway bars, different calibration for shocks and stiffer
durometor bushings.
I've heard it both ways, that the suspension makes a huge
difference and that it doesn't.
It comes down to personal preferance.

A4's are easier to launch, easier in heavy traffic and better for drag racing. They are only better for drag racing because with the addition of a high stall torque converter they can launch like a **** and they are far more forgiving on the stock 10 bolt rearend. They came with either 2.73 gears or the optional 3.23 gears. A4's make great daily drivers and drag race cars.
M6's are faster in the manner that they have less drivetrain loss so they will trap a tad higher and dyno slightly better. They also come with better gears (3.42's vs autos with 2.73's or 3.23's). M6's make better gas milage especially on the highway. M6's make great daily drivers, roadcourse, autox and weekend fun cars. They can be good drag race cars as well it just takes more money, patience and practice to get a 11 second slip then it does with an auto.
Formulas are the stripped down version. They have the Firebird body (no raised spoiler or ground affects) and the 5.7L V8 engine. The main advantage of the Formula is it weighs less then a TA so they make good drag racing cars.
Trans Ams have the same engine, tranny & gears as the Formula but came with more standard features and the main difference was the body style change. Namely the ground affects, spoiler and the front end is slightly different. They look a bit cooler (subjective to personal preference of course), weigh a tad more and cost a tad more.
WS-6 is a performance package you could get on a TA or Formula although it's much more common to see on TA's. They beefed up the suspension, added the wicked looking ram air hood, raised the airbox to accomodate the hood and I believe it had a better flowing exhaust. WS6's added a few horses but they also weighed more I think. They were really more of an appearance package IMO then a performance package.
Best setup IMO is a Formula with a light weight aftermarket ram air hood. But an original Formula WS-6 is nice too
