Re: Qtp Headers?

Get the y-pipe welded then and stop complaining. I'm sure you could find someone that would weld it up for less than the $50 spent on better clamps. Then you'd just have to keep an eye open for leaks at the collector and the i-pipe, which (if I'm hearing you correctly) is not where the leaks are occuring. It's not rocket science people...

Re: Qtp Headers?

If i bought cheap headers i wouldn't complain about welding. But when u supposedly buy the best, u don't want to have to fab it yourself, do u? If u do want to weld everything just contact me when u want some headers, i will sell u the pipe for the price of headers and say it just needs welding, stop complaining when u ask for your money back, LOL. the pipe has 4 clamped connectors in it to be able to get in up under the car. Its all wedged in there tight. welding that close to stuff could damage other things and also it would make the y pipe unremovable from the car without cutting. its would also be rattle a lot and maybe crack, the y pipe has the flowmast d port merge in it, it doesn't juut colide the gasses like most y pipes, so it needs the joints to have a little flex in them for it to work right. the same shop that installed it for me(nationally reconized fbody, they have a web site) in balt md, had no problem welding in a cutout for me in my checy truck, so if i think welding was an option they would have done or at least suggested it

Re: Qtp Headers?

i agree with dan as far as welding and fabbing. honestly, i saw a few threads where people actually had problems with qtp. they look really nice though thats for damn sure. i remember people ordering qtp and it must have took them a lifetime to receive it, and also another thread where a guy installed qtp and then the y and the damn y pipe didnt even fit. i would like someone to compare hookers vs. qtp's? other than the stainless part, i wanna see some #'s between the 2.

You don't fully weld the y on the car. Mount it up, tach it up a few times, take it off to complete the welds, and then you have a 1-piece y just like any other system. People weld exhaust systems on cars all the time. If that wasn't a suggestion from one of the "best" shops in your area, I'd start to question just how good the shops in your area really are.

Re: Qtp Headers?

I just can't see spending the amount of a set of heads for a set of headers.

Re: Qtp Headers?

Try a set of Burn's Stainless. They are 1500.00 for the tubing and collectors and ya got to have them cut, fit, and welded another 800-1000. and no "Y" pipe.
They will give ya way more then 5 HP on a built engine.

Re: Qtp Headers?

obviously speed demon hasn't seen the qtp y and also the price of it. its obvious exhausts are welded on. As for my shop, they are top notch, its f body central, they have a web site, as well as do cars from as far away as new jersey and what they do works. Hookers are good but they have a bad y piep design and bad spark plug access, although stainless works has an improved y pipe to work with the hookers(jethot).

Re: Qtp Headers?

Sheesh get a set of used coated pacesetters for $325 shipped like I did and be done with it already...with the headers & an LS6 intake I gained 46 hp & 26 ft/lbs tq...don't know about you but I am not interested in shelling out another $900 for minimal hp.

First off, there are pictures of the stinkin y-pipe on the QTP website. Second, the selling price of any part has nothing to do with the way it's supposed to be installed. Third, a shop having a website in no way says they do good work. There are two shops around here that have/had great websites. One did a ****ty job tuning my friend's car and the other went out of business because the guy spent engine-build deposits on strippers and s**t. I wasn't for one second claiming to have all of the answers. But, it is beyond me how some people can over-complicate the simplest things like Teke said. They're freakin' pipes. The slide together. When they fit right, clamp them...weld them...I don't give a rats ***. Just don't act like it's rocket science 'cause it's not. But hey, that's just my $0.02...WTF do I know.

Dude, bad spark plug access? Buy a 4-banger.

As for your problems with the exhaust parts, did you contact the vendor and try to resolve it with them before posting here? I called TSP when my exhaust stuff didn't fit perfectly, and they were more than helpful. I ended up paying somebody I knew at a local exhaust shop a whopping $5 to fix the fitment issue, and he even welded the back of the exhaust up for me. Big deal.

Re: Qtp Headers?

dan might be a little too upset over this, but the man has a point. For 1000 bucks invested in top notch headers, they should fit right. Further more why should you have to weld on coated/ stainless headers, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the finish??? QTP should just provide better clamps to avoid these issues. I personaly whould not mind welding, but most customers spending 1000 dollars do mind.........
