Power loss??

I recently purchased an 02 Z28. It has an upgraded air filter lid. The one side of it is cracked and the crack and the right-side hole is covered up with electrical tape. Would this cause any power loss? Should i replace it?

Also, the tube that connects into the side of the lid isn't connected to it. He put some type of screen over the end of it and it just sits there. Is this bad?

Re: Power loss??

a crack in the lid will not cause any power loss....in theory it could increase power since it's allowing air into the engine with less restriction (no filter).

the hole is for the AIR pump...that won't hurt power any either

i would replace it though...after all it is broke

Re: Power loss??

Is it ok for the tube to be disconnected tho? It seems like it would be really easy to suck in water or dirt or something?

Re: Power loss??

The only thing i'd worry about is that it's letting unfiltered air into the motor.

dirt = bad

Re: Power loss??

yeah forgot to mention that.

as for the AIR tube....alot of guys remove the hose and put a small air filter right down by the air pump. kindda cleans up the engine bay. so look around maybe that's what the guy did.

Re: Power loss??

After a closer look i dont think its cracked. He just has a bunch of electrical tape over the right side hole. Should i take the tape off and reconnect the air tube?
