Power band?

well to start off my idle isnt as smoth as i'd like it to be...

but, like i've argued in the ls1vslt1 topics, that my new LS1 seems to have a bad spot in its powerband... there is a stretch around my house where i get a near 1/8 mile of a seemingly vertical drive... and while my lt1 could pull the whole thing and peak at 70 mph before slamming on the brakes, my ls1's first try up the road only got 45?! as soon as that first gear was done, it stopped accelorating... I tried again and did a little better, didnt check the speedo, but what can I do to improve my bottom end, or check to make sure its running properly?

Re: Power band?

It isn't running properly if you're only able to hit 45mph by the time you reach the 1/8th... you should be "trapping" some where close to the 80mph range I would think. Check the obvious such as plugs/wires first to make sure you're getting spark to the cylinders then take it from there.

You're the guy in Diamond Bar aren't you...

What hill are you talking about?

Anyways, plugs&wires sounds like a great idea, and maybe fuel filter, even air filter. Just start with basic tune up peices and you should find your problem.

Re: Power band?

my car was running like crap for a while and it turned out to be a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake manifold.

if you ever wanted to meet up... its inside the Country Estates in Diamond Bar... its a long windy road (love to drive it) and it finnishes with a massive upward... its one of those hills you think (at least I did, when i was younger) would be awesome to ride your bycicle down, then when you start to go down you realize its too steep for a bike...

ohh and the note of air filter, the car already has a K&N on it... how do i clean it?

see i dont know if its running like crap i'm just not familiar with the power band... and where it ought to pull and where it shouldnt...

like for example when i'm going up a hill at 1100 rpms in 4th gear, maybe 40 mph... she seems to not be able to pull up a hill...

Re: Power band?

Think about this: Why does the transmission have so many gears? Answer: So you don't have to lug up a steep hill at 1100 RPM? DING! RIGHT ANSWER! 1100 RPM is about 200 above idle! You don't have a power band problem, you have a gear selection problem. Try second or even third, and watch it eat up that hill.

Re: Power band?

LT1's are notorious for having tons of torque around 1500-2500 rpms. LS1's are different. The powerband starts at about 3k, for good measure. thats why when LT1's and LS1's race stock for stock, and LT1 will usually pull the LS1 off the line, but after the LS1 hits the 3k mark, its all over because it just keeps pulling all the way up to 6k and up around 160 miles per hour. Do that with a stock LT1
