popping sound when stopping or going

I have a 2000 Z28 it has 342 gears in it and since i bought the vehicle i have heard and felt this metal popping sound in the rear. I have seen different ideas on the matter from changing the fluid and so forth. I would greatly appreciate someones knowledge on this. If anyone has heard or dealt with this any info would be greatly appreciated . THanks

OK I'm going to assume its when accelarating from a stop and coming to a stop. If its the sound I think it is, its may not be your rear end. In my case my I thought it was my gears cuz when I accelarated hard from a stop I could hear it. Anyways, it turned out my shocks were crap, and with bad shocks I guess it was giving it hell on the rear suspension(I don't know much about suspension parts). but the problem went away, it might be wheel hop in my case, but check your shocks and suspension. Hope this little bit of info helps.
