Please Don't Kill Me
Please Don't Kill Me
Another pressing question.
When I start my Z28 in the morning, I'm hearing a really loud "squeeky wheel"(sound speeds up when I get on the gas) noise, that's loud enough to be easily heard over the rumble of the engine. It only subsides twenty minutes or so after the car warms up, and it slightly intensifies if I turn on the AC.
Anyone have any idea what it might be? I don't have any warning lights coming up, the car's running strong as ever, and all the gauges are showing normal.
I'd give anything to get it to stop, it didn't use to do this, but somehow recently has acquired it. And it's not the belts, both belts are new. It's embarrassing to ride past the apartment complex bus stop with this loud squeaking going on, making my LS1 sound like a 1987 Buick on a thirty degree winter morning.

hmm
It deffinatly sounds like the serpintine belt, if you just got them then i suggest getting some lithium grease or some kind of grease of some sort and spray a lil on the pulleys and belt, it should stop. Other then that something could be loose.
i second the pulley problem.
i would swap to a new belt first...nice cheap and easy possibleremedy
pop the hood and see if you can isolate the sound source.
another thought would be your air pump for emmissions, it's located behind the driver side headlight...listen for it, you'd be able to tell if that's where it's coming from

However, to respond about the belts, both of them are brand new, roughly a week old. I don't think swapping them would do anything.
Idler Pulley::
Replaced mine and Gm part was $48 for complete pulley assy.
Smart me, I bought a bearing for the pulley and it cost $46.
I had to have a friend press out the old bearing and press in the new one.
If I had it to do over would just buy the one from GM!
Just my $.02 worth!
This correct my squealing and was a simple job, about 15-30 min.

should just be a couple bolts.
the hardest part will probably be getting the belt routed correctly over the maze of pulleys and tension wheels
