Piston Slap, etc

I've been reading a lot about LS1's and I have heard and read that one of the problem is with the valve train. Piston slap, bending rods etc. All nasty business. I have also heard that this is a pretty commen problem with LS1 blocks. (what are some other common problems with the LS1 engines, too. I remember from my LT1 that the optispark was a big PITA. I am looking for things like that)

Is there anyway to avoid this? I will keep my car pretty much stock. Not touching the Cam or the heads. I plan on doing a ported TB, some forced induction ( SSRA, lid, free mod), some exhaust and some suspension work. Will this be bad for the car? I plan on driving this car daily and keep it for atleat 3-5 years, and I will never be able to replace a bent rod.

Thanks guys!

A proper breakin of the engine when it is new helps.

I'd say these proplems are still rare, they happen more than on LT1 cars, but if as many as 1 in 1000 have the problem, I'd still say it isn't common

To avoid the bent pushrod, don't downshift when the engine is already at redline

1999 TA Here , 21000 miles and sounds like a friggin diesel when it starts but gets quieter when it warms up. This is my second LS1 that I have had and they both had piston slap , I can tell you that I ran atleast 15 bottles of Nitrous through each of these cars and not a god dam thing changed . Still the same knocking still the same power , Knock knock knock till it drops. On the spray it runs 122mph , 125 shot .
