pickup today of 2002 red ss
Thx for the info on the shift skip... only had about a day to drive so far due to the weather and was wondering why I missed a couple of shifts and had a bit of trouble with 2nd... only reason i think it happened to me is why im trying to break in the car and shifting at lower rpm's. As soon as i reach 1k it wont bother me anymore
Congratulations on your car!Theres nothing like having an LS1.Just wait until you get to open it up and get to row thru the gears.I have found that downshifting does save your brakes. If you know you have a stop coming up,just start downshifting and the car will slow itself down.If I'm in fifth,I downshift to fourth at 50mph,to third at 40 ,and 2nd at 30.Each of thesewill bring your RPMs to about 2300 or so.Once they get to 2000 you really feel the car start slowing down.I can't wait to get some better rotors and see how long they will last.I'm at 23500 on the stockers.Enjoy!
Down shifting to slow your car down will work.. but just think of it like this.. you are putting a lot of extra stress on your clutch and transmission to do that. I know I do it some.. but I use my brakes a lot too. Like someone said earlier.. better to replace 50 bucks worth of brake pads than a transmission and clutch.
