Cool

After going through hell with insurance companies ,finally i am picking up my red beauty from the dealer today. I was ready to arm myself with a sawed off shotgun and rid us all of the evil insurance companies . I almost lost my 0% financing due to their evil ways...
My rally red SS is a 6 speed with a short throw hurst shifter, T-Top, and every other option available other than the stripes and slp mods...
This red beauty was the last 6 speed rally red SS in Ontario...
Since this is my first Camaro if anyone would like to give me any advice on how to break it in, at what rpm's to shift for the break in period it will all be appreciated...
I live in Toronto and i'm thinking of taking a trip to Quebec to the SLP factory later on for exaust and a couple of slp mods, is the loudmouth the best sounding and performance wise system out there?

Congratulations on your new SS. I hope that you really enjoy it. I just wanted to let you know that i have the SLP Loudmouth and it kicks @$$. I think that you'll really enjoy it for the $$. I also have a mac hi flow y-pipe and cats on it so it's a little louder than it would be on a stock car. Not too much drone for me! Ohh yeah, everyone else likes the sound of it too, it'll turn heads from blocks away!

Thanks,
Jonathan Arndt

Is there anything I need to know about the Hurst shifter before I drive it home today? does it need any special treatment? I dont want to run into any suprises while driving it home and obviously I dont want to sit there and double clutch my way home to be on the safe side...

I have the loudmouth on my 99 Trans Am and I love it. It sounds awesome. Has some drone but not alot and like the other guy said it turn's head's. I will be putting SLP Longtubes w/ off-road pipes here soon. Good Luck with the new car.

Congrats on the new car. Well to answer your questions about the camaro, the manual says 500 miles is the normal break in, but I recommend 1000 miles, go easy on the brakes for the first 200 miles. And that crap about the stock spark plugs being good for 100,000 miles is a load of crap.

any idea on what exactly the skip shift feature i see light up once in a while is? havent had the time to read through the manual yet.
does it mean i have to shift to 3rd from 1st or something like that?
wouldn't that be granny driving? lol

OMFG I KNOW THIS ONE!! I was talking to a friend of mine who happend to have a 99 z28. He noticed the skip shift while driving mine and tld me that the car just wants to go from 1st to 4th. Why? 1) it's supposedly better for the cars fuel economy...1 - 4 > 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. That and something about the car thinking its rpm is too high, so it SKIPS SHIFT to 4th. There are chips that turn this feature off if you want it...you can find it at www.rksport.com. Also, you'll notice when driving the car, that if you just put a little more gas on 1st it'll go away and let you shift into 2nd. Your call bud. Enjoy it! I'm enjoying mine.

Oh, and going from 3rd to 1st is called down shifting. It slows down your car so you don't really have to use the breaks...My dad told me to do it in his Fiat (the car I firsted started driving). He told me don't go from like 5th to 1st, just do it single geared. i.e. 3rd to 2nd...4th to 3rd...Don't shift from 2nd to 1st; when you get to 1st just start breaking, you should be going slow enough to make it a nice smooth slow stop.

I don't know about this. I've never done this for one reason - I'd rather replace $50 brake pads than a $5k engine.

Yes, the skip-shift is annoying. For it to engage, you have to meet all of these 3 criteria: warmed up (I think over 180*), between 15-20mph, and using less than X% of throttle. Like mentioned before, you can buy a skip-shift eliminator to get rid of it. Don't know what RKSport charges, but usually they're a rip-off. Be sure to shop around. Should be able to get one for around $30.
