passing emissions
in pa we have testing, its really easy to get passed if you think alittle. first off here, if you drive under 5000 miles per year you are exempt. so if your car "stays" under 5k miles a year you never have to get it tested.
lots of people here get fake stickers which apparently a lot of cops can spot (i don't know how they do?) but then you just get fined. i find that a lot of people get fake stickers caus they are less then half the price of an actual inspection. others buy real stickers. and with afew bucks, and asking around, you can definatly find a shop that you can't fail at

With the new OBDII type testing in Texas, all they do is plug into the diagnostic port while the car is running.
No trouble codes/lights = Pass !
The only mod that might have even affected the 'puter was the HPP III , and it is certified as emissions legal.
Heh heh - don't even have to change the oil before ya go like with the treadmill tests, which are still done here on the '95 and older cars ( pre OBDII ) .
Sad part is, they still charge the same $ 40.00
for either test, pass or fail.

Wow! The OBDII test sounds pretty cool!
Here in Ontario we've gotta run the car on a "treadmill" (
) and it's sorta tricky to get around it
..........not impossible mind you, but I'm not sure what could be done with a newer fuelly car to clean it up?
I know that when I had my '81 Z28 tested (with the 383) it failed miserably the first time, but with a little "tweak" of a screwdriver, adjusting the amount of fuel flow, it passed with flying colours!!!
(shhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone though
).

However - there has got to be some trick - maybe a visual inspection if the inspector has questions - ?
Just dunno.
I know you would not be able to w/ a 95 or newer due to the treadmill w/ sniffer.
Bastages - my '91 Suburban barely squeaked by last time 'round 'cuz they made the treadmill test tougher to pass for the older cars. Before, they just ran it stationary at ~ 1000 RPM & 2000 RPM.
Now, the treadmill acts as a load - and they lowered the specs.
For $40.00 ( $ 39.95 I think is the exact amount ) the least they could do is give me HP readings at those speeds ...

Here in GA, tESTING IS 25 BUCKS, pass or fail. With OBDII they plug in ad if you don't have any abnormal codes, you are passed. In our cars, The puter does not give the checker any statistical info, as on the treadmill. The computer simply gives a "go, No Go" reading of Catalytic converter function. If the guy wanted to be a **** head he could give you a visual inspection, but who wants to be a ********?
Memphis hasn't gone to OBDII yet, but it's in the works. Until then, we have to go to one of the three city owned inspection stations, wait in line for 2 hours, and have the sniffer test.
So, until OBDII starts up, there isn't much we can do to get around the inspection other than have your car registered outside the city limits.
So, you live in the city, but your car lives at a friend's house out in the county.
