Are Cutouts Bad?
I was told by a friend, (who might have no idea what he is talking about), that cutouts are bad. Everyone on here seems to love them but I am confused. He said if you install a cutout their would be no backpressure. He said its like having an exhaust leak. Is there any truth to what he says? Can someone enlighten me?
lol does your friend drive a civic too? Backpressure has meaning in lower powered engines but with our V8's backpressure doesn't mean much. Like it was mentioned earlier, you'll lose a little low end but gain it and a lil more in the top end. Worth every penny.
I would adivise you to not getthe elctric cutout. It is very convienient, but if you look at it, they hang very low, and if your car is lowered you alsmost asking for it get ripped off by a rock or bump. Lots of people do have reliability problems with them too. It takes all of two minutes to crawl under and uncap it so i would just go with a standard cut out.
I have the dyno sheets which compare a cutout and non-cutout HP/torque reading. To my surprise both torque and horsepower were higher with the cutout uncapped with a maximum gain of 10 HP at peak RPM.
http://www.wtfba.org/dyno/ Look for my dyno run "Roger Cotton" (WTFBA doesn't allow direct linking, sorry)
I think that will show you that my cutout gave me 13 RWHP on the dyno, and torque was increased for the entire range.

Install the cutout in the I-Pipe, directly under the rear passenger seat. There is a natural cavity in the floor pan and you can tuck the cutout (and electric valve if you so choose) up under the seat where it doesn't hang down at all.
Ya i have an electric one and it doesnt hang any lower than a non-electric. If installed right, it wont.
Had mine for almost a year with no problems or malfunctions at all.
Its nice to be quiet (well quietER) when the cops are around or when the girlfriend starts to b!tch about a headache
