At least the radio in my car turns off when the car is shut off...

From the radar detector power cord you just splice a connector to the switched power wire that goes to the radio and another one to the ground and that's about it.

yeah basically you can pull out the radio and splice it in there or find a wire off the fuse pannel on the drivers side next to the steering wheel. V1 comes with all the hardware necessary and I think even instructions its not hard to do. I even blew a fuse, but thats cause I had the car power turned on while I was hooking it up (not to bright I know, but I didn't have a meter and I was trying to find a ground) The screw that holds the pannel underneath your steering wheel works pretty good, easy to get to and still out of the way. Then I just pushed the wire between the edges of the dash all they way up from the underneath the steering wheel, along the fuse box, up along the along the windshield and then just tucked it in the top. Placed the detector itself right above the mirror. Works pretty good except the rear sensor gets blocked when I put the visor down. The unit itself only uses .5 amp per hour and your battery has between 400-800 amps sor like said before, if you forget to turn it off, its no big deal. I've left mine on for 3 days before and the car still started. IF you don't have a V1 then you can go to a hardware store and get some splicers. V1 might have a pic of them on their website, but basically its a connector that fits over the wire, then you use pliars to push a metal plate into the wire (effectivley tapping into it). Its a very common piece and some one should be able to point you to it from the above description. Its also a very clean way to do it cause you don't have to cut the wire, but it is very permanent!. Hope all that helps.
