Which one works the best

Miud length or long tube headers? Are mid length the same as shorties?

Longtubes are technically the best. Mids will take you farther than most people will ever go. Earlier in the LS1 years longtubes were so expensive that the price advantage of Macs made them an awesome alternative. With the susequent proce drop of longtubes, I see no reason not to get them. Shorties and Mids are not the same. Every header except for shorties will relocate the cats.

Much agreed, if your going to be spending the money go with LT's. We are doing a GP on pacesetter LT's in the vendor sales forum if your interested.

Thanks

Josh

You will see the most substantial gains from long tubes.

Buying a decent set of long tubes, will more than likely be the last set of headers you ever need. As your mods grow and the car gets faster they won't become a limiting point like a short of mid-length header would be.

The emissions is tricky because I am military and never know where i'll be stationed. Howw much of a difference is it between the mid-length and shorties?

significant..

as a round number LTs will gain you 15hp, mids probably 12hp, and shorties about 5hp

Re: Which one works the best

I would say stay away from shorties unless you have to pass smog or something

Both LTs and mids are good headers. They say mids will net around the same peak HP as a LT, but the LT will give better power down low. I haven't researched enough to see if this is true or not, but it's what I've heard

I have MAC mids, and I'm happy with them. A friend of mine actually had SLP long tubes, but he sold them and bought the MAC mids, since the SLP headers were scraping pretty bad. He said he felt no noticiable difference "downgrading" from LTs to mids

Go with LT's. Macs are just as expensive if not more so than most, and you can get pacesetters on sale in many places, obviously.

Re: Which one works the best

So basically there is less then 5 hp difference between the Mids and LT's, but the LT's will give me clearance and smog problems.....correct? As for my Mods, I plan on the lid, filter, belllow, converter, full exhaust, and a year or so down the line a cam,ls6 intake and heads swap. How does that sound for mid length, is that enough for 400rwhp?

A filter is not a "mod". I suggest sticking with the paper one if power is something you WANT.
The bellow is a cosmetic item. Again. Keep the stock one unless you have issues with the stock ones look.

What psycho said. Filters should not be viewed as a mod, unless you're swithing over to something like the Volant or FIPK.

400rwp will depend on your head and cam choice. There are people running just under 400 rwhp will smallish cams only and guys that are at the same level w/ a large cam and heads. This also depends on what your engine did before. A cam can give a 30 hp increase in 2 different cars but one could have started w/ a 320 hp base and the other 340 hp. So one will be a 350 whp set up and the latter 380 whp. I've also seen where smaller cammed cars w/ less peak whp run quicker than larger cammed cars w/more peak hp. Its just that the smaller cam had a better curve instead of being so peaky. A hp goal isn't the best way to look at things.

Just ask around locally, in forums, and sponsors and look at dynos sheets and take the average hp/ET gain for a particular set up with the manners you want.
