Film strength doesn't mean **** in a test conducted at room temperature in an environment not found in an engine. I'm sure you are referring to scratch tests such as this one - http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf

They're pure bull****. Look on the oil drop forums. Check on LS1tech for posts by Patman. Check with Blackstone labs, a company that does oil analasys. Royal Purple MOTOR OIL sucks, plain and simple. And oil sheeting off of metal has absolutely NOTHING to do with film strength. What that means is when the parts spin at high speeds the oil is flung off. It reduces horsepower loss by less weight on the crank and other moving parts, but at the same time it is also not there to lubricate.

I have to ask, how are people not using motor oil correctly?

alright, got the heads in my hands, the porting is badass, fully ported and polished, will post pictures of work on here. I think its the way to go for now. I play on installing the heads when I get the valve covers and brackets but while im at it, will install the LS7 lifters and probably some good springs. Then comes the cam and intake.
