Lately I notice that sometimes when I am at a stop light or at idle my oil pressure needle bounces back and forth a little bit. It's got 80,000 miles on it and it's a 99 SS. Is this a problem or might it just be the cable for the gauge needle acting up?

 

I think a little fluctuation is normal especially if you have been running the car hard, but the oil pumps in the early LS 1 engines have been know to fail without much warning . My car is a 1999 as well and my oil pressure was always fluctuating anywhere from 60 lbs all the way down to 25 lbs and my car only has 60,000 mostly babied miles on it . I changed the oil pump with the ported SLP oil pump when I did my heads/cam swap and now it idles at 65 lbs of oil pressure and never goes lower than 40 when it's hot .
