oil light

I had just bought my car in August with only 2500 miles. At about 3500 miles I had the oil changed using Mobil 1 synthetic 5w. It's only been 1000 miles and the oil light now kicks on when I first start the car and then goes out about a few minutes later. I have read the many posts about oil consumption in M6 vehicles and given that I just got it a few month ago I have been driving it hard and having some fun with it. However, the dipstick is showing the level at operating range so I am not sure why the light is on.
What I am wondering is whether this is normal and should I just add a little oil to it inbetween oil changes. Is this normal since I just switched to synthetic? Also I am not sure whether given this is a GM car, whether or not I need to reset the oil light. I have seen some GM cars having to do this.

Thanks...

You just need to reset the light! (if you stick with a regular oil change schedule, you can ignore that damn thing!).

To reset:

Turn key to "ON" position (not start), then push and hold the "Trip/Oil Reset" button for ~12 seconds until the "Change Oil" light flashes. Let go of button, and it's reset for probably another ~5000 miles or so.

Thanks. The user manual was not in the car when I bought it and I had no idea how to reset it. Thanks again.
