Oil catch can

I tried that installuniversity.com pcv mod and didn't have much luck with it. For some reason the tb was coated with wet new clean oil after a couple hundred miles. Where as it was only sooty and moist with the stock setup. So I went back to stock. But I know it's still sucking up oil and fouling the plugs.

I was just about to order one of those universal catch cans from ebay but I'm not paying $50+ for something so simple.

So I went to Home Depot and bought all the ingredients to make a home brewed one. I spent a whopping $12 + some change.

Hopfully this will greatly reduce or maybe even eliminate my oil thirsty LS1. The silicone is drying so I'll install it in a couple hours.

I hope your can is thick. That seems like a lot of surface area to be exposed to intake vacuum and not collapse. Let us know if it works.

Does the pcv really make that much vacuum? The can is pretty stout, I don't think it will collapse, at leas I hope not. I did look for a smaller can but this was the only size at HD.

I don't know, man. I'm hoping it will work out, but my instincts say no way.
Think about it this way.... if the can is 5" wide by 6" tall, that is a little less than 100 square inches of cylindrical surface area. If the intake pressure is only 12.7 psi (2 pounds below atmosphere), there will be a total of almost 200 pounds of pressure distributed on the outside of the can. Any imperfection in the can's surface with that much pressure applied would probably cause it to crumple up really quick.
I guess we'll see, though.

1 - empty 1qrt paint can
3 - 1/4"x1/4" I.D. Hose Barb to Mip Adapter (may want to use 3/8" to make it easier to plumb)
2 - Nylon Hose Barb to Mip Elbow 1/4"x1/4
3 - 1/4" Female Pipe Cap (couldn't find a nut to fit the Mip Adapter so I had to cut the end of the cap off and use it as a nut)
3 - Washers that fit around the threaded part of the Hose Barb to Mip Adapter
2"-3" of Clear Vinyl 1/4" tube
1 - 1/4" Vacuum Cap

Drill two 1/2" holes in the top of the lid. Coat the threads of the hose barb to Mip Adapters with RTV silicone and screw them into the two holes. The put a bead of silicone on the washer and put it on the oposite side of the lid. Now if you couldn't find a nut to fit the threads of the Mip Adapter you have to cut a Female Pipe Cap to make it into a nut. Secure the Mip Adapter to the lid with the Pipe Cap. Do the same to the bottom of the can to make a drain. For the fill level indicator on the side. Do the same thing with the Nylon Hose barbs but don't put a nut on the back, they stay secure with the clear vinyl tube.

I'm no good with instructions so if any of this seems vague, I'll try again.

It hasn't colapsed. I think since it's just suction going through it, there isn't enough vacuum created to crush the can.
