No oil at startup/#5 cylinder misfire
No oil at startup/#5 cylinder misfire
I get a check guage light at startup and the oil guage shows no oil. If I rev the engine the check guage light goes away but the oil guage stays lower then normal? I did a complete oil change with 5 quarts of mobil 1. AC delco filter. I replaced the spark plugs and wires with irridium TR55's and MSD wires.
I have other issues too that I figured out through the search. I'm wondering if they have anything to do with the low oil issue. Trouble code P0420=Bad Cat and P0305=misfire in cylinder 5.
Im going to run a catless exhaust but what do I go about fixing the #5 cylinder misfire and the low/no oil issue?

Re: No oil at startup/#5 cylinder misfire
you oil pressure could be a tad low because of the cylinder 5 misfire. And also the fact that you didnt put enough oil in. Your ls1 takes 5.5 quarts of oil.
So...check cylinder number 5. Make sure the spark plug wire is on firmly...and if not. Check your spark plug. You could have cracked it when installing it. If not...you could have just gotten a bad one. Or maybe the coil pack for that cylinder is bad or not grounded correctly.
Thats all i can think of.

Re: No oil at startup/#5 cylinder misfire
I had the 2 trouble codes before I did the oil, plugs and wire change. Ive also added another quart of Mobil 1. Oil pressure still low and the check guage light comes on until I rev the engine. While driving the meter bounces up and down depending on how high I rev.
P0420=Bad Cat: I dont mind because I'll get a catless exhaust.
P0305=misfire in cylinder 5: I have no clue what do do about this nor why I show no oil pressure at startup?

Re: No oil at startup/#5 cylinder misfire
If you have already checked the plug and wire thoroughly for cylinder number 5, I would have it scanned at advance or autozone. The advance around here has a better scanner than autozone.
good luck
good luck
Re: No oil at startup/#5 cylinder misfire
If there is a cyl #5 misfire then i would have to assume it would be a lack of fuel or fire in the cylinder. switch the fuel injector and spark plug to that of another cylinder and replace the other cylinder with its components. See if the problem moves to the other cylinder. If it doesn't move, well, then you just eliminated a few possibilities.
