New respect for the corvette!
New respect for the corvette!
I drove them before...but only in a straight line. Never pushed the limits of them in a turn to see how they ...not until today!
GM in motion was in town and the corvette won me over. The pro driver in the passenger seat told me go as fast as I like..."the only rule I have is that you don't hit a cone". If I knew how well they handled I would have waited and extra 6 months and get one instead of the z28 I have now. My wife even loves them now and wants to get one. Now I am trying to convince her to learn stick in my z28, but she wants the automatic. It helped to bring her...now I can get one, but it might have to be an automatic so she can drive it too.
Oh well at least I can one. Gonna wait though until the new vette comes out, so the current one goes down in price. BTW I've driven my z28 at a few autocrosses and I pushed that vette beyond what my car would have done at the past autox events.

I haven't driven a C5, but I know my '85 handled the turns like a it was on rails. It would completely blow away my SS in the turns.
I'm sure some guys will say that you can mod an F-Body to handle like a Corvette, but stock against stock, there's no comparison.

Tell your wife to learn how to drive the stick, or she won't get any seat time in the 'Vette.
It's just not the same in an auto if you plan on having some fun in the twisties or tear through an auto-x course.

I know....
I have to teach her. She does know how, but she doesn't like. I showed her years ago in my Honda and Explorer, but she prefers auto. I don't know why. Oh well....I'm going to show her again and get her used to it. I have time anyway. I have a year left in paying off both my cars, so time is on my side right now.

Did the car have active handling? I was floored the first time I drove one and it came on. I put it in performance mode, (active handling, no traction control) and took a 90 degree curve at about 80. The car put the brakes on for me slightly, made the turn without the tail coming out at all. AMAZING. Would a pro be faster without it, sure, but I'm not a pro. That active handling will SAVE your but if you enter a curve too fast. Sorry, but SLP/Bilsteins won't do that. The C5 is really in a higher class.

The C5 is just a better handling car, period. They help, but your Bilstein shocks aren't going to change that.
I went again this morning and drove the z06 twice this time cuz it was early and the like the fact I wasn't scared of the first corner. I also drove the automatic.....not as impressive, but still handled like a champ. Manual all the way for me.
I read about the GM in motion thing on another board and the guy went on the same ride with the "pro driver" and he made him shift at like 3500rpm's
and the guy held the shifter in 2nd the whole ride!! Seemed like they didn't let him push the car at all
Maybe you got a cool "pro driver"

F-bodies suck at handling period... there balance is very poor... but who buys a Fbod for handling anyway? They are for the 1/4 mile... vette is for the turns. Thats at least how i look at it.
