New to LS1.. Dumb Question :)

I just bought a stock 02 Z28 with 3.23s & 20K miles.

My prior cars were a stock 95 Z28 with 2.73s.
And a 93 Z28 (All boltons, LTs, 3.73, GM Performance Parts Trans, etc...)

The question is the car seems like a dog compared BOTH the LT1 cars until it hits about 20mph, and then it takes off... .
This is with the Traction Control off too

Is this normal?
I know it doesn't have mechanical issues.
It isn't like its missing, cutting out, stumbling, et al.
It just doesn't seem to have the low end grunt the old cars had.
I know the 93 vs. 02 from a dead stop isn't a good comparison, BUT compared with the 95 with 2.73s I would think a 3.23 geared LS1 would have more take off

Not trying to start a LT1 vs. LS1 thread, just those cars are my point of reference

I think the LT1s make all their torque at like 2,500 RPM and the LS1s peak at around 4,400 RPM.

Just FWIW, when my car was brand new and bone stock (maybe ~2000 miles on it? ) I went to the track and raced my friend with his '96 T/A. Both our cars are A4, and we both had 2.73's. I ran 14.1 @ 101, while he ran 14.6 @ 97 mph. BUT, my 60' was 2.2, and his was 2.1.....go figure!

I just recently got to drive an '87 'Vette with the L98.....what a torque monster that was, but all off-idle to about ~3000 rpm.

Sure, in comparison the LS1 "feels" like it's lacking off the line, but line up beside an LT1 car, and you'll blow their doors off (assuming both are stock). The new head design of the LS1 allows them to breathe well at higher rpm's.

I dont know why people complain about the low-end torque. I know I have bolt ons, but I still have 300 lb-ft or torque at the rear wheels above 1750 rpms.

I may be new to the LS1's as well, but being able to SMOKE my 285's w/ a stock motor w/ the same gears as you isnt a dog to me! 72000 miles on her and I still cherp 2nd w/ NO mods done and big meats holding her down! Take it to the track and then see how it runs comp to everybody else to see if it runs ok before you say the LS's can comp to a LT1.
