Need a New Clutch?
Hello again, for those of you who don't know, i'm having tranny work done on my 2000 Z28 M6, it has 53K miles on it and the because of a launch I did,
it needs the throw out bearings replaced. I was told I should have the clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and slave replaced at the same time. The tranny mechanic told me that my clutch is shinny and glazed. I have done some hard launches on it since i got it, but I think the person before me took decent care of it. IF I do need to get a new clutch, I was thinking between a stage II and a stage III. It will be a long while before I really need the strength of a Stage III. Cost is def a factor, so I'm looking at a SPEC Star Clutch kit Stage III Carbon or a SPEC Star Clutch kit Stage II. I'm looking for a clutch that will handle abuse, but still maintain streetability since this is my daily driver. Do you guys think i should replace all that stuff with my throw out bearings, and if so Which clutch should I get: Stage II or Stage III?
Thanks alot

You definatly should replace the pressure plate and throw out bearing with the clutch. You should also get the flywheel resurfaced, or replaced with a lightweight flywheel. However, you said cost waws a factor so i would just get yours resurfaced. Usually you get clutches in kits the contain all these things and then the shop resurfaces the flywheel. You should be fine with the Stage II. The Stage II would be overkill, unless you have some serious mods in the forcast, but again you said price was a factor so i wouldnt worry about it now. At the time when you have the money for Stage III mods, you can get the The Stage II then. You'll be fine with the stage II.
