Need help with ticking problem
To start off I missed 4th @ 100, going thru the lights at Speedworld Dragway in Phoenix AZ. I hit 2nd the car cut off and clicked ever since. At first the car ran decent a little low on power, 14.39 @99 ('99 Z28 M6 2.73) after misshift. Began smoking and check eninge light on maybe 200 mi later. Hey I was off to school and had no other way around. Fast forward 1000mi later, all new pushrods (4 badly bent on pass. side ) and a trip to the shop to fix check engine light, no smoke and power back. Maybe another 200mi and no oil pressure after a couple miles, and not stable the first few miles. So she was parked, I ripped her apart my self to find a broken lifter and one of the new pushrods almost cut in half. I had the heads checked (no bent valves but needed to be decked) all new lifters and only one new push rod. Oh and pistons felt good in the block, the cydlinders still had a little cros****ch but crank her up and still clicking with no oil pressure. Can any one help, I'm tring not to pull engine but looks like I'm gonna have too.
Well the clicking could be because you have no oil pressure, no oil pressure sounds like a busted o-ring in the oil pump pickup tube. Before you go through all that trouble you need to hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge, it's a little pain in the *** because the oil press sending unit is tucked away behind the intake but this needs to be done so you can eliminate the possibility of a malfunctioning oil pressure sending unit. If the mechanical gauge also reads 0 or low psi start looking into that o-ring. When those rings fail it pretty much gives you either no or low oil pressure because the oil pump is sucking air instead of oil.
Thanks
You gave me a light blub, I broke the oil sending unit and one knock sensor pulling intake off. So it and o-ring on it are good, but I should check pressure with my gauge. Then I can comfirm a bad oil pump, which I think can be changed with out pulling engine since its crank driven. Where is this o-ring on the pick up tube?

The o ring slides into the pick up tube which then goes inside the oil pump, here's a good picture for you:

It's a pain in the *** because there's pretty much no clearance and the engine has to be raised in order to remove the oil pan. Like i said before, check your pressure with a mechanical gauge before you attempt this, it's alot easier to hook up a gauge than to remove the oil pan
If you still get no oil pressure then the pick up tube would be next on my list, unless someone here has another suggestion.

Mechanical-overrev 4th to 2nd? Ouch, dude.
I'd check what Johnny said, but it could be anything. No oil pressure sounds like a oil pump drive problem --- probably sheared the teeth off the pump or drive --- they don't like being spun 10000 rpm.

What year is the car? Some 98s had a problem with the oil pump bypass valve bore being rough sometimes causing the little piston to stick open dumping all of the oil back into the pan instead of pushing it thru the motor. No oil pressure then junk motor. When a motor doesn't have oil pressure you don't run it at all other than for mere seconds while troubleshooting with a manual guage.
